Dog barking and attention seeking

The dog is driving me insane!!

We have an 8 year old male collie and since I have started maternity leave he has been extremely annoying, barking for attention, whiny and just different.
I understand there is a change in routine now that I am off all the time. My mother in law comes to walk him as I struggle. He gets plenty of exercise and attention but it doesn't seem to be enough.

When my mother in law comes over I try and correct his behaviour and she starts to mother him so much I have to shut him away in the kitchen because she just ends up encouraging it.

He will constantly bark and then once settled he will bark for attention and then when he doesn't get attention he will whine and start throwing toys around / chasing tail and finally nose people and start licking and jumping around the house.

My baby will be here in 2 weeks maybe and I'm firstly worried about all the barking with the visitors and I'm worried about the attention seeking behaviour leading to him knocking over the Moses basket or harming the baby.

At the moment I'm so angry and hormonal I could just lock him outside. 😭😭

Please can anyone help I'm at the end of my tether with this needy and whiny behaviour

I really recommend you join Dog Training Advice and Support UK on facebook. It's run by professional behaviourists who will advise you and put you in touch with a trainer local to you. In the meantime you could scatter high value treats when your mum arrives instead of waiting 'till he's already worked up, or put him behind a stairgate so he can't practice at least some of the unwanted behaviour.
