Can I give my dog mackerel and sardines?

Just that really. I'm looking for some different things to put in my dogs kong and bought some tinned mackerel and sardines (both in water) to try. Is it ok for dogs to eat both of these?

Yes, it's great for them. I wouldn't put them in a kong though - the smell would get everywhere!
Mine adore dried sprats as a treat

I put sardines and mackerel in my dogs Kong, usually mashed together with left over veg or sweet potato. She licks out every morsel , nothing left inside and then it goes in the dishwasher. I don’t mind any smell cos we cook and eat a lot of fish anyway.

Ddog loves fish but OMG the fishy farts Shock

Ok, good point. Trying to think of healthy Kong fillings. Her favourite is peanut butter and banana but don't want to give her that too often. I raw feed so don't want to use anything that's processed. The peanut butter I use is has no salt, sugar or sweeteners added (meridian I think) but I know it's full of fat. Will give her the mackeral and sardines as a treat - in her bowl! Thanks for replying.

You can & your dog will love them but like a PP said the fishy darts might make you regret it Grin

Darts? I meant farts of course but my phone doesn't like the word. Also cross posted with you OP.

Natural yoghurt with mashed soft fruit or wedges of apple/carrot/cucumber are good in a Kong. Can add a drizzle of honey if you’re feeling particularly nice.

You can pack raw minces in Kongs too - freeze and they’ll last ages.

Thanks everyone. Some good ideas.
