Check out their "preferred referral network" and the rules surrounding it Obviously it would only become an issue should you need to use a specialist but I wouldn't be keen on using an insurer who would try and restrict who I could see.

Tesco were fab last year when our dear pup swallowed a dog toy. The vets dealt with them directly, they said they had never had problems with Tesco before.

Ddog got sepsis after the first operation so our local vet wanted to move him for more specialist care. Tesco did have a preference about where he could be sent although we could pay a little extra if we really wanted to go with the other option.

We had no great preference so he went to the Royal Veterinary College animal hospital which was far more modern and hi tech than most NHS hospitals! He made a full recovery but we used up the full £7000 insurance amount. Tesco paid both our local vet and the hospital without any issues.

The premiums this year went up from £24 to £36, but I consider that fair considering how much they paid out after only a few months of starting the policy.

I highly recommend them.
