Puppy is so unsettled tonight

Typically monkey pup will have his dinner around 6pm (usually given as a training session too 1. slow down his eating and 2. tire him out!) then he generally zonks out and sleeps most of the evening, maybe gets up a couple of times for the toilet, a drink or a little play but generally pretty chilled.

Tonight he has done nothing but pace, whine, bark and try to get into the utility room. His food is kept in there and often we'll do some meals/training in there too. He does love all things food but this is odd for him. He started doing it straight after his evening meal tonight so it can't be actual hunger.

He didn't want to settle in his crate last night when I put him to bed which is very unusual. I ended up sitting next to his crate until he fell asleep; which I've never had to do before.

He's almost 6 months old. I've been with him all day and he's been absolutely fine so I have no idea what this is about. He has just this minute finally fallen asleep on his cushion in the lounge, which is typical as I will need to move him soon for toilet and bedtime.

Just a blip or something more?

I'd most likely chalk it up to a one off but other things to think about...

  • teething (he may be the right age for some of the bigger teeth to be coming out so may be irritable or in pain from that)
  • UTI or minor tummy upset, if there are other symptoms
  • something in the utility room he wants, like maybe some dropped kibble you cannot see but he knows is there
  • strange noises, like the heating coming on recently, that he is not yet used to
  • pushing his luck to see if he can get more food
  • a growth spurt that means he is more hungry than usual so his current food intake isn't quite enough

Any of those ring a bell?

Thanks missbattenburg it could actually be any or all of those things! (I don't think tummy upset but will keep a close eye) I found a tooth on the sofa the other night so he's certainly teething and he seems to have grown an inch over night every night this week!

I will check the utility for unreachable kibble and it tends to scatter far and wide when he uses the kong wobbler so that may be bugging him. Wouldn't surprise me if he's just pushing his luck though, he is so food motivated! Hopefully a one off.

Just when you think it's getting easier they throw you a curve ball Hmm
