My job involves visiting vulnerable people in their homes and my last appointment of the day, the couple I was visiting told me their puppy recently died of parvo. Their other dog contracted it but recovered after vet treatment. The house isn't in great condition and shortly after I sat down on the very dirty sofa, I realised it was urine soaked. The dogs were initially shut away but they were released at one point and were jumping all over me/licking me. I'm fairly sure they will have obtained these dogs from less than desirable breeders and will not have been vaccinated so I'm also worried about other communicable diseases.
I have a 6 month rescue pup from Romania so she's had all her vaccinations etc. As soon as I got home I got straight in the shower, put all the clothes I was wearing and my coat in the wash and cleaned my handbag. I'm not sure what to do with my shoes yet so have left them upstairs away from pup. I still need to clean my car seats etc. before she travels in there.
By coincidence we're seeing the vet tomorrow for her puppy check so I will run it by them but I feel really worried my pup might contract it. How risky is it? Is there anything else I can do? Should I throw my shoes away? I'm so worried and upset
