My dog bit another dog today

Was out for a walk with my 4 year old border terrier and we met up with another woman who I know through walking my dog and her BT. We have walked with them a few times but the last time which was a few months ago her dog started a fight with another Bt and my dog jumped in amongst it her dog got bitten on the ear although we didn't see who did it.

Anyway today it happened again her dog became aggressive with another very young BT and my dog jumped in again barking really loudly and going for her BT's ears. So it was probably him the last time too. I never had any issues with aggression before, he can be a bit barkey and excitable if he meets another daft dog but has never been aggressive before. I think we will have to avoid going out with the other BT now but should I be worried now that he has done this? I'm usually careful about approaching other dogs anyway but wondered if there is anything else I can be doing?

Maybe put a muzzle on? My dog is unpredictable so he wears a soft nylon one. I don't like the Hannibal Lectar one.

Agree about the muzzle. Plus, it gives you a really obvious sign to others that the dog isn’t really a ‘touching’ animal, so, should anything kick off in future, you have covered your bases.

Please don't ever use a 'soft' muzzle for anything other than very short term wear (vets, groomers). Any sort of exercise is an absolute no-no as your dog can't open his mouth to pant and can easily overheat.

Looking like Hannibal is better than heat- collapse or choking to death.

I’d just keep,your dog away from this particular dog if it’s only in this company that you have problems .

We used the Hannibal Lecter muzzle for a while but it was for scavenging as he has colitis so the scavenging was really aggravating it. He hated it but the vet had warned against the other types for exactly the same reasons as Shambolical

I think we will be definitely be keeping away from the other dog from now on which is a shame but don't think my nerves are up to it. I was just worried he might become reactive to other dogs. Hopefully it's just that one.
