Started my own thread as feel awful keep bringing the puppy survival thread down with my woes.

So bought him home from the vets tonight which was a massive mistake. Started vomiting again so we have just done a dash back to the emergency vets for an anti-sickness injection.

Held off admitting him again as I think they will have no choice but to open him up and look around all of his abdomen next week and selfishly I want to spend some time with him before they do that.

Second mistake was not readmitting him as the injection hasn't stopped it. Going to take him back first thing and let them look after him for the rest of the weekend. I keep thinking did I give him too much to eat too soon? But he's vomiting liquid and not food Sad

It's heartbreaking to see him in so much discomfort. I would rather it was me that was ill Sad The poor boy has had more exams and scans than anything and despite them hurting him he still is so friendly.

Sounds like there's no clear indicators of whether the op is actually necessary. Must be so difficult. Really hoping the vets can give you a clearer picture later.

BiteyShark · 07/11/2017 14:34

Right I have answers Grin no need for OP right now. He seems better and is coming home with medication and a plan. We have to bring him back tomorrow but our boy will spend the night with us. So happy 😄

Yay! any diagnosis yet?
So happy for you too Grin

Wolfiefan · 07/11/2017 14:41

Bloody awesome. Come on Bitey. Get well soon.

Elphame · 07/11/2017 14:44

Grin He'll be so glad to be home! Do they have any idea of what it is?

BiteyShark · 07/11/2017 15:13

Ummm the vet did explain what they thought it was but I need to google it as I am not sure of the name etc but right now he's on steroids and antibiotics and other stuff for his gut.

We have just literally walked through the door and he's already made himself comfy on the sofa and having a snooze. He stinks from the kennels but I don't care right now as he is my lovely stinky boy who I am so glad to have home.

Just got to feed him little bits of the food they gave us and monitor his poos but we are back tomorrow to look how he is progressing.

Hoping for poo!
(Can't believe I just typed that!)
Wolfie pup is on antibiotics. Wondering if they could upset their tummies? Never thought to ask.
Praying for poo. Good solid poo.
(I may have spent too long in the doghouse!Blush)

BiteyShark · 07/11/2017 15:47

I am far too obsessed about poo. I can't for the life of me remember what the vet said as I think I was too giddy when they said he could come home. The only thing that might fit that I can see on google with what they were describing was eosinophilic gastroenteritis and they did give him some steroids to see if it improves further which fits. It was definitely some horrible gastro enteritis thing and we can forget the foreign body given how he has responded today. I am trying not to get too giddy given we have been up and down the last two weeks but he does seem better in himself and has had a little bit of food and is now settled happily on the sofa.

Cocobananas · 07/11/2017 18:18

So glad biteydog is home, the right medication is obviously paramount but being home snuggled on the sofa with you will be his best medicine x

BiteyShark · 07/11/2017 18:50

He is so much better than the last time I saw him on Saturday morning when he went back in. He has had 3 little meals so far and no poos but he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort like he was at the weekend and is now snoozing curled up by me on the spare bed. Definitely agree that just being home is a good medicine on its own Grin

He is all ribs though, they are protruding like you see when dogs have been starved. Think it will take a while to get him back to where he was with weight especially as he can only eat little bits right now of gastro friendly food.

Right now Mr! (Adopting stern tone.) No more worrying your family. There will be eating. There will be pooing. There will be sleeping and playing.

That's all. As you were! Grin

Lovely news. I've been following and hoping x

SkeletonSkins · 07/11/2017 19:49

Oh Bitey I am SO relieved. I have experienced the op for an obstruction and sadly it didn't go well so had my heart in my mouth reading your posts. Honestly so so glad to hear he is home.

DeepfriedPizza · 07/11/2017 19:56

Fabulous news!

BiteyShark · 07/11/2017 20:10

Skeleton so sorry Flowers. It was one of the reasons why we were so worried about going ahead with it and now so glad we held off for a few more days.

OP posts:
bluetongue · 07/11/2017 20:16

Yay Bitey dog Smile Your update has made me so happy. Try not to stress too much about the weight loss. He'll put it back eventually. He must be so happy to be home.

BiteyShark · 08/11/2017 05:24

Well he is still coughing (I have acid reflux which makes me cough and I do wonder if it is similar) but we had a few hours sleep in between each bout. Stroking him is hard as I can feel all his bones the poor thing but he is still eating well.

And the really good news is that in the middle of the night he got up for a poo and did (warning tmi Grin) a massive one that was extremely soft but it was 'poo shaped' which is a zillion times better than the mucus coloured liquid stuff he was doing.

Definitely on the road to recovery but expecting to have to work at home and nurse him back to health for a few weeks.

Back at the vets this afternoon so they can check him over again. Think I might pay the bill today as I am wondering how much it has all costed but with no operation we should be under the insurance limit but it has opened my eyes to how quickly it mounts up if I didn't have insurance.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 08/11/2017 07:37

YAAAAYYYYY! POOOOOOOO!
No. Not the dog poo troll!
If he isn't having diarrhoea and is eating he will steadily gain weight. (Madam has put on 200g in a week!!)
And yes. Thank goodness for insurance. We have spent £300 in a month on a sore paw and not eating. Shock
