Chihuahua scratching ear constantly.

My Chi pup has been scratching his ear a lot the past 2 days, I can’t see any signs of fleas and I have tried to have a look in his ear but don’t want to delve too far in there.
I will of course take him to the vet ASAP but was wondering if there’s anything obvious it could be or anything I can do. I wonder if he’s got an infection or anything? He’s fine otherwise, eating/drinking/playing as normal.

Does he shake his head? Is the ear smelly? (Even just a faint wif? ) Than its most likely an ear infection. You can also try and fuss him behind his ear slightly down ... My dogs start reflex scratching... an other sign for infection.
