How are your dogs coping with fireworks?

I've had plenty of fearful dogs in the past but this one so far (touch wood) doesn't seem too bothered

There was a big firework display in town a couple of weeks ago for the pumpkin parade. I took my two children out to see them but left the dog at home

I closed the curtains and made sure the TV was on at a decent level.

Came home within 15 minutes of the fireworks finishing to find her fast asleep on the sofa and no damage to the house.

Hoping it carries on like this

We have very strange dogs who sit in the garden and watch them!!

Elfpup isn't the least bothered. He cocked an ear at the first few bangs, looked at us to see if we looked worried (obviously we didn't) and then went back to sleep.

Ours does a quite woof at the first bang, but when we tell her it's fine, she settles. I'm glad - she's developed a real fear of thunder over the summer so I was afraid that would apply to fireworks too.

One isn’t bothered.

The other has taken to hiding in the oven.

Neither of dogs or my cat have ever seems to be bothered. We don't live particularly close to any big displays but we do hear the odd bang and they barely flinch.

Every November I so remember....our black lab wandering nonchantly around the back garden in the middle of fireworks going off hoovering up bits of hotdog and burgers the children had dropped. Someone had gone in to use the loo and not shut the back door. She was silhouetted in flashing lights, my heart stopped! After that she always came out on lead to watch and receive her own sausage in a bun but I am talking the nineties when back garden displays were common and not as unPC as they are now.

Mine have always been fearful so TV up loud.
GirlDog has taken them particularly badly this years and cuddles up to me trembling. Poor thing.
It's been every night since last Monday and still over a week until the "main event".

My dog has become more upset as she's got older. I keep curtains drawn and windows closed. If she is not hiding under the dining room table she is on my lap wanting a cuddle. I really hate fireworks in private gardens.

Mine was distressed when he first heard them as a puppy... until we let him into the garden and he could see them. He’s not batted an eyelid since.

So far so unbothered. We got her 1st December so not a lot of experience with them though. 5/11 will be the real test.
Shall stay in with her. Hoping they don't go off at late night wee time! Curtains closed and TV on.
Thundershirt can help I believe. And adaptil. There's also the thing on FB tying a length of fabric round them. Would never leave a dog wearing clothes alone. Cover crate too.

Daftdug hates them, October to February is hell for us!

Mine didn't bat an eyelid at fireworks for years and then suddenly started to get scared when he heard them. He sleeps in the kitchen at night but he will not sleep in there when fireworks are going off- he's so scared that he keeps barking. We have to bring him upstairs when fireworks are going off

My two, not so much. Used to walk them on the Army Ranges from when they were puppies, so I think they got used to loud bangs.

Not bothered. She gets a bit grumbly if she thinks they've gone on for too long, but mostly sleeps through them.

First round this summer was fine but now he seems to get annoyed with them, he barks and looks around for the source of the sound. I think he's more confused about what it is than anything else and his guarding kicks in. 1 yo terrier

I'll be investing in a big sized thunder shirt this year to see if it helps old yeller - last time we had fireworks he climbed onto my knee shaking and wouldn't move for an hour afterwards. He's a little big to be doing shit like that!!

We've not had many round our way so far but there is some sort of halloween festival this weekend so they will probably start then.

Pizzapup is quite an anxious dog so we'll stay in with her and sleep on the sofa with her if need be.

it's her birthday on 05/11 too

My old dog (died last year) used to be absolutely beside herself with terror and tried to climb inside the wardrobe, shook like a leaf, couldn't settle (it is like the Somme round my way for weeks). However, I got some doggie tranquillisers from the vet and always used them if I thought it necessary (if I thought they'd quieten down in 30 mins, I wouldn't dose her). They were invaluable. I tried not to use them more than I needed but they were a boon (to her more than me). New dog just notices the bang, looks surprised and carries on as normal.

Mine, fortunately, couldn’t care less about them. A lady told me off last year for having her out when there were fireworks going off, as it was cruel, but she genuinely doesn’t even seem to notice them, unless it’s a really loud one, and they only cause her to give a little growl. I took her clay pigeon shooting with me regularly as a pup though so I think it’s desensitised her a bit to bangs.
