Barking puppy

I'm after some advice on Husky pups. My neighbours have recently bought one and it is crated when they go out and sometimes when they are home.
My problem is that when crated it howls and cries constantly. It goes on for hours. I'm trying to be a good neighbour and give it time to adjust but it's been about three months now.
I went round to speak to them and they said "what do you expect me to do. It's the breed. This is how they are"
Is this the case?? Is it just a Husky thing. It doesn't seem to get walked at all either. It's probably bored to death.
Do I just ignore and hopefully it gets better?

Siberian huskies don't tend to do well being left (or ignored) for long periods of time. It's not surprising that the puppy is kicking up a fuss but it's not that that's "how they are", it's that your neighbours have got a puppy of a pretty specialist breed whose needs they're not meeting.

Sibes are intelligent and extremely active dogs. Exercise does need to be restricted somewhat when a puppy is small but as it grows if they're not keeping it suitably exercised (both physically and mentally) then its behaviour is only likely to deteriorate. They are notoriously destructive and vocal if they're left for long periods/bored/under-exercised. It's sadly very common for them to end up in rescues once they're past the cute puppy stage and trashing the house because they're only getting a 30 minute walk around the block once a day.

I would start keeping a diary of when the puppy is barking/howling so you've got something to approach your local council with. Recordings of the noice would be good as well.

I thought they were an active breed and would need plenty of excercise. I've not yet seen it go out on a lead. Poor thing.
They don't have a great track record. They had a staffy that they couldn't control which they "gave away" and their last puppy was a JR that was knocked down by a car when they let it out on its own.
We are in social housing so at least I can notify the landlord about noise levels.
Worries me about the pup though Sad

Our husky is 4 and have only heard her howl twice. . Both out on a walk in the company of other dogs.
She will likely realise a husky isn't for her once it starts destroying the house. . Only so long it can stay in the crate.

I have 2 husky crosses, one is very vocal, she loves to "talk" to us when she is excited but it isn't a howl it's more of a grumble/mumbling sound, always cracks me up. The other makes very little noise, doesn't bark unless he is playing and is over excited.

The only time I have known mine to howl properly was when they were young and I had to separate them for training/walks etc. I used to crate one and take the other out, the one that was crated would usually howl/bark/whine until it was their turn.

I feel so sorry for the pup, it clearly is not happy. It upsets me when people buy puppies then just stick it in a crate when it becomes difficult to deal with.

The response from them when I mentioned about hearing hours of barking and howling was
"What do you think it's like for us, we live with it"
I said "but it's up to you to sort it out. It's not MY dog"
I suggested some training and maybe a behaviourist.

Maybe research some dog walkers /trainers and pass on the info. . Shame them into doing something about it maybe?

I don't think it will help. She came round earlier to tell me to mind my own business because I'm a big mouth apparently.
She says she will report me for harrasment. Shock
You just can't win some days.

Ring the HA as some have a one dog policy.
Also in your tenancy will be that you are entitled to enjoy your home without harassment etc. Get reading!!

Poor you having a rude neighbour and poor dog having her as a neighbour. My neighbour told me my dog was crying while I was out and I thanked him as it helped me have his separation anxiety diagnosed while still young. Yes dogs bark but they shouldn't be a nuisance and it's not usually a sign of a happy dog if they're vocalising to that extent.

Your neighbour should be apologising to you for the noise, not abusing you.
