Miss having a dog about the place, should I get another?

H and I have separated and he has my beloved Eric although he comes for visits and I have him when H needs me to. But I miss him Sad, I miss the daily walks, I miss him by my feet, I miss having him to talk to and I think it will be worse when dd is back at school and really there is a huge dog shaped hole in my life and in this house.
Eric is a lovely sociable animal and so I think he'd be fine about having company when he is here and I'd want a small dog so could walk the two together as Eric is a dream to walk and would hope the second one would get there as well eventually.
I wouldn't want a puppy as I really didn't enjoy the puppy times and feel more confident that I could manage a rescue now anyway and the house and garden is dog proof so what do you think? Should I wait a bit and see if I get used to having Eric part time or should I fill the gap and start looking at rescues now do you think?

It's stupid really, don't miss H, happy when ds goes to stay overnight (dd won't go) but miss my little dog's presence in my life enormously.

So sorry, this sounds so sad.
What about some volunteer dog walking or short term fostering for a while, just be be sure you are ready?

A dog shaped hole needs a dog to fill it.
Simple surely?
