Photo warning (bit grim) can anyone tell me what this is on my dog?

It's on his 'elbow'. At first I thought he had a clot of mud stuck to him but I think it was a thick scab. He has this (photo) now, it looks like a bloody mess with a kind of lump in the middle... any idea what it is?

Is it a tick?

Stick some sudocrem on it and check again in the morning!!
Our collie as a dc had germolene lathered on everything that bled /was scuffed. She lived to nearly 21. Never see it now so we use sudocrem instead!!

Hard to tell without getting close enough to spot legs but it kind of looks like a tick to me too.

Twinkle I did wonder that, but I've never known a tick to be so bloody, plus no evidence of legs etc...

Tick id say, but it also looks like a mole/abscess/sore type thing my dog had on her shoulder that would fill up, burst, bleed,go down and repeat. She had isoderm gel from the vet for when it flared up. Get it checked out though just to be sure and put your mind at rest

Ok, thanks guys. The vet it is then. Tried removing it with a tick remover but no luck. My instinct tells me it's an abscess... poor love, he hates the vets. Have covered it in Sudocrem for now.

I hope it's nothing op. I just wanted to say that one of mine had what the vet thinks was a skin tag that ripped off. It left that jagged edge "crown" effect I can see in your pic. Good luck.

Bless. I hope all is OK now. We had a similar thing on our GSD the other week. Looked just like a bloated (fed) tick but I could see no legs. Turns out is was a little abscess.
