Greyhound ear tattoo question

We have a rescue greyhound, who has an ear tattoo. DP's friend looked up the tattoo number and said it wasn't registered. I thought all were registered whether they raced or not. Can anyone explain to me, or point me in the direction to find out more?

Have you been in greyhound-data.com you can look up your dog by their racing name and it will give you their pedigree and racing history

Did your dog ever race? Or don't you know that much history about it?
Some greyhounds just don't like to chase!

If friend was looking at greyhound data not all registered dogs have been added on there, especially those that didn't race. You'd need to contact the relevant studbook

There's also independent greyhound racing & sometimes breeders tattoo ears to keep track like Hancock's lurchers.
