Thinking of adopting a lurcher pup

He's about 6 months old, good with children and ok with cats (I have 2 of each).

Never owned a dog before but always wanted one and have been around dogs in the family, walked them and doggy sat for family.

I work part time 9-3pm four times a week and was thinking could I get a dog walker on those days to walk him for an hour and take him back to hers for another hour. Would that be ok or still too much time alone?

Thank you

Hi, for what it's worth-

We had a lurcher when I was a kid. Cracking dog, very gentle.

As far as exercise went, he loved a run but had no stamina at all, so didn't need really really long walks and would happily sleep for a few hours following any exertion!

I reckon if you had a reliable dog walker/sitter who could spend some time with him in the day you'd be alright :)

Initially I would say it's too long for a young dog BUT it really does depend on the dog. Lurchers are generally very easy going/lazy dogs. Do you know what mix it is? Cute pics always help Grin

Here he is. Not sure of mix. He's quite laid back and gentle.

I just don't want him to be sad when I'm not there. Saying that I have a siamese cat who is like a dog with other dogs and plays with them very confidently so I'm hoping they'll be best mates after being introduced slowly

He is such a handsome boy!

I think your plan sounds very sensible and I would expect him to be fine with that

Orangebird69 · 01/09/2017 12:17

Ok, enough with the pics now. Overwhelmed with it all and a little bit jealous Blush

Omg! He is so gorgeous Shock

You will have to find a way because surely there is no possible way you can resist!

I don't think I can!! But I'm a single mum with 2 cats and 2 kids. He'll either push me over the edge or make it complete. I really would love a.companion to keep me company

I have a big hairy Lurcher. They are just the most incredible dogs. Watching mine run is an absolute joy. Then he flops on his sofa and is out for the count for a few hours. Go for it. You will never regret it.

Sorry - meant to say - He's a beauty.
