Don't feel bad Bitey. It must all be so stressful. Guess you can't really sleep properly at the moment either Sad

Yes, class will hopefully be good. We were all laughing at the end that we couldn't wait to meet everyone's crazy pups next week Grin

Wolfiefan · 04/11/2017 12:50

Oh bitey I hope you hear good news soon.

Fillybuster · 05/11/2017 10:20

Blue - that’s really interesting. Please keep on sharing the info from the course!

Clay - sounds like you are doing amazingly well. So glad that the park visit went well and Claypup gets on with your sisters pup - it’s such a relief when the family’s dogs get along well!!

Fillypup continues to keep us all amused. Having a dog is even more complicated and expensive than i was expecting, and I was even crazier than I knew thinking I could juggle a puppy with a full time away-from-home job and 3 young dcs, but I wouldn’t change him for the world! Although we are still quite some way from reliable toiletting (I thought we were dojng so well until I discovered about 10 separate yellow puddle stains on our only rug!!!) and have some “interesting” chew marks on our coffee table.... DH is slowly coming around - he still thinks I’m crazy and hates the impact of having a dog, but is increasingly attached to the little chap himself.

Biteyshark - please can you link to the thread? Been thinking of biteypup all weekend. I got so scared and stressed 2 weeks ago when Fillypup started throwing up everywhere for a few hours and we had to rush him to the vet, and that was all over within a day or so. Must be horrific for you right now - sending you lots of (slightly un-MNetty) love and (())

BiteyShark · 05/11/2017 10:33

Thanks Filly the link is here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_doghouse/3077818-Poorly-BiteyDog

I feel like I have flu at the moment but it's all sleep deprivation and stress related Sad

bluetongue · 05/11/2017 11:21

You poor thing Bitey it's just all so hard for you right now. Is your other half being supportive through all this?

Yes to a pup being more expensive and complicated than planned Filly! I'd like to think that being an ex horse owner prepared me for the work and expense but the difference is I didn't have a mortgage to pay as well then!

Have had some fireworks here tonight and Bluepuppy has been really good. You'd think I'd be safe from such things here in Australia but it seems not Grin

It's really hard not paying as much attention to Bluepuppy but it has to be done. Have also been shutting him out of the room when I'm eating most of the time. His food stealing ways really were becoming ridiculous Blush

GooodMythicalMorning · 05/11/2017 11:40

Indy wasnt bothered by the fireworks last night which was great as was unwell and couldnt have coped with an upset boy too.

Elfpup was OK with the fireworks until some idiot neighbours across the road set off what sounded like mortar bombs. I jumped, never mind the poor pup who was woken from a deep sleep. He was jumpy and unable to settle back to sleep all evening.

I'll be glad when tonight's over as the idiots will probably have more to let off (they never need much of an excuse).

I'll second the complicated and expensive bit. Elfpup has already outgrown his bed (it was only a cheap one as I knew that would happen quickly). The food is expensive and I've had to replace a few computer cables (my fault for not supervising him more closely of course).

It's the tiredness that I wasn't prepared for. He is less demanding than he was a month ago but then at least I knew what he was doing. Now he's happy to be in a different room and as he grows things he couldn't reach he now can! So I'm constantly having to check up on what he's doing. Rarely is it sleeping!

Sofabitch · 05/11/2017 18:57

Just picked up a 10 week cockapoo! What have I let myself in for !!!

GetTheStartyParted · 05/11/2017 21:25

Lots of sleepless nights and stress @Sofa
Luckily also lots of fun and love! Good luck with the early days Grin

Elphame · 05/11/2017 21:38

Good luck sofa Welcome to the fun and games!

Wolfiefan · 05/11/2017 21:42

You will cry.
You will laugh.
You will need good advice (vet? Trainer?)
You will worry it's all going wrong.
You will (at some point) regret getting this puppy.
I've had my girl for nearly a year and now I can't imagine life without her.
Good luck and enjoy. You will never leave the house without a poo bag again! Grin

Oops4 · 05/11/2017 23:22

I could cry.......four ish weeks in with pup number 2 and today we have had zero, yes that's right ZERO, accidents and she has actually asked to get out twice!

It was a year ago almost to the day we got pup one and I swore I would never get a pup again and would certainly not get one in winter as toilet training in the cold and rain was hideous. Became very obvious that pup 1 needed a friend and so after much deliberating, along came number 2. I was ready for toilet training being tough but think it's a bit like childbirth.....you forget just how bad!

Long way still to go but on boy it feels good to be making progress!

Sofabitch · 06/11/2017 05:45

Thank you guys!

I'm actually super surprised. I was expecting him to cry all night. We put him in a crate in our bedroom and he cried so much for 30 minutes. But then settled and went to sleep. He woke once had a little wimper and i took him for a wee...he is still using newspapers, and then he went back in the crate and to sleep..where he is still fast asleep!

I've booked him a vet appointment and emailed about puppy classes.

We've thought about this for so long. But the reality does seem a little scary!

BiteyShark · 06/11/2017 05:48

Good luck Sofa and yes you have let yourself in for a lot of trouble and joy Grin

Oops you're brave, I am one year in and no way feel ready to take on another puppy Grin.

blue DH is trying to help but his job is inflexible and I have a medical background so scans etc doesn't phase me so I take on all the vet stuff and care.

Elphame · 06/11/2017 12:28

Gone right of Elfpup - he's just eaten another mouse. Still feeling queasy but he's happily sleeping it off and allowed me to complete my FATCA declaration (which I resent immensely).

DeepfriedPizza · 06/11/2017 13:22

Pizzapup did not have a good time at the weekend even though it was her birthday yesterday. She was terrified of the fireworks. We put her thundershirt on her and gave her adaptil but it didn't help. She slept under our bed on saturday night and woke up for a pee at 3 then slept on top of our bed. She started off on top of our bed last night but when she peed on our bed DH slept on the sofa with her. I hope there are no fireworks tonight

BiteyShark · 06/11/2017 13:28

Uhh yes it wouldn't be so bad if it was just one night for fireworks but they just drag on for days and then we will have them again at new year.

DeepfriedPizza · 06/11/2017 13:38

I think I will get her some stronger medication to deal with New Year

Wolfiefan · 06/11/2017 13:41

Would a darkened crate help? Natural remedies? I know people have used rescue remedy and rock rose but no idea if it's safe. A LONG walk helped here too. Also a friend put her "buff" (like a snood) round dog's head.

DeepfriedPizza · 06/11/2017 14:17

she hates the crate so that wouldn't help. she felt safe under our bed so that helped her a little. She had a massive walk on both days but that didn't help. When she had separation anxiety we tried a natural remedy (vetiver) but that didn't help then either.

Elphame · 06/11/2017 15:28

Anyone want a puppy? Washing half digested regurgitated mouse out of my carpet is definitely the low point so far - it was still recognisable.

Another joy of puppy life you don't get told about....

ownedbySWD · 06/11/2017 16:36

Just collected puppy from her spay surgery. Poor little thing!

BiteyShark · 06/11/2017 16:54

Elphame I'll pass this time as had my fair share of cleaning vomit up recently. They are disgusting things when they want to be and I bet ElphPup is looking so proud of what he ate Grin

ownedbySWD lots of tlc for her tonight. BiteyDog was really wobbly and cried the first night after his neuturing but was much better the next day.

Wolfiefan · 06/11/2017 17:01

Bitey I would say you've had more of your fair share of what comes out of either end!Grin
So we've had the eye issues, the ear issues, the itchies, the "you can't clip my claws", the tumour (that fell off) and the suspected phantom pregnancy (no I will NOT eat!). Now we have the mystery of the sore paw
Sad

BiteyShark · 06/11/2017 17:20

Do you play ball Wolfie? We have had sore paw on and off but it's when he skids along trying to stop he sometimes takes a bit of paw pad off or grazes it and we have to rest it.
