A bit. But only on grass. I thought she scraped it playing with a gsd but it just isn't healing. Sad

Oops4 · 06/11/2017 18:26

Is it ever on AstroTurf Wolfie? We have a good enclosed Astro turf pitch near us that's available for anyone to use. I previously let our pup run while the kids were playing football and I noticed each time he ended up with a sore paw. No obvious cut but it definitely irritated him so we avoid it now

Wolfiefan · 06/11/2017 19:43

No Oops. Never. Only in a muddy field! Or in our (equally muddy) garden!
Now the big decision. Do I put the bloody enormous cone of shame on her, freak her out and risk her not sleeping well or trust she won't eat the bloody bandage?! Shock

DeepfriedPizza · 07/11/2017 07:48

Trust she won’t eat the bandage but be prepared to pull it out her butt.

It’s our turn for puppy diarrhoea Sad

whenthedarkcomesrising · 07/11/2017 07:53

AH this where I should have posted the first time! I started a thread but I hope another new-puppy bod will be able to help with this:

New puppy - now15 weeks old - brilliant boy EXCEPT from about 4.45 to 5.45pm, when he CONSTANTLY PEES. I just don't understand it! He's not perfectly toilet-trained at other times, but he definitely understands that weeing in the garden is good (sometimes he doesn't quite make it to the back door but does his best.)

But in the widdling hour it doesn't matter how many times I take him out - there are always 7+ puddles, hard on each other's heels. As soon as I mop up one another appears! He also seems to have no control over his bladder while napping at this point - if I encourage him to snooze, he'll just pee in his sleep (only time he does this). Pretty sure it's not a urine infection - it's only this time of day, and I did go to the vet with a sample when he first started doing it, which came back fine.

Is it because that's when my daughter comes home from school? Is it for attention? But then why does he do it in his sleep? WILL IT LAST FOREVER? HELP!

BiteyShark · 07/11/2017 08:09

My puppy would do excited pees so when greeting people I would have to follow him around with a mop. Could it be that?

When you say he is peeing in his sleep. Are you sure he isn't waking and then peeing in his crate?

whenthedarkcomesrising · 07/11/2017 08:15

Hi Bitey, thank you for your response.

It's not a greeting wee, I don't think - it's not the moment when my daughter comes in, and he doesn't do it when greeting other people - and he's definitely peeing in his sleep. We don't use a crate during the day (pup very anti) but he sleeps on a beanbag, and I've seen him wake from a nap with a puddle underneath him. I don't understand that either - he doesn't do it in his bed at night!

ARGH

BiteyShark · 07/11/2017 08:25

Peeing bits after each other might just be that he didn't empty his bladder properly so goes again. Personally I would stay out with him in the garden at that time until he is forced to go and maybe stay out a bit after in case he hasn't emptied his bladder fully.

Maybe if there are things happening at that time he doesn't want to be in the garden to pee in case he misses something so I would force the issue by staying out with him and fully praise just like you do for toilet training.

Elphame · 07/11/2017 11:51

Elfpup will do 3 or so little wees in succession in the garden and he's most likely to have accidents in the late afternoon. I think we are both tired by then. He's 16 weeks.

I have it down to either finagling extra treats or practising for when the great day comes that he can cock his leg on a lamp post and send his own "pee mails" to the other local dogs.

I'd do the same as Bitey - put on hat coat and gloves and wait the hour out in the garden if necessary.

I've never had the problem of peeing in sleep but could you wake him periodically and take him out?

whenthedarkcomesrising · 07/11/2017 15:32

Haha you may well be right Elphame - I think he is ettling to leave messages! V good advice, Bitey, I am going to try and have a walk at the dreaded hour - at least to break the habit. Sorry to see you on your other thread that your pup has been ill and hope he is all better soon.

GetTheStartyParted · 09/11/2017 08:53

Argh, left pup in the garden unattended for 10 minutes so I could fold some washing in peace ten steps away from her and she chose today as the day to discover the bag of builders sand that's been here longer than she had Blush Took a photo to confess to my DH and she was so excited that she got the zoomies. I am not used to mischievous pup, she's always been a good girl! Grin

Just thought I would post to celebrate one whole week without an accident on my kitchen floor, it's only taken 6 months Grin

Hope everyone is hanging in there!

BiteyShark · 09/11/2017 09:16

Congratulations Grey mine took a while to get it eventually.

Get if I can't hear BiteyDog he is usually up to no good so I always panic and have to find him 😁

BluthsFrozenBananas · 09/11/2017 09:28

Can I join you all? We’re picking up our Pomeranian puppy on Saturday, and I’m both nervous and excited. I’ve never owned a dog before so this is a complete step into the unknown.

What should I expect from the first week (other than mopping up many piddle puddles)?

DeepfriedPizza · 09/11/2017 09:31

Well done Grey

Welcome Bluths!

PizzaPup still has diarrhoea. She’s been on stool firmer for 2 days but it’s no better. The last time this happened the vet acted as though we were overreacting. She’s absolutely fine in herself, eating, sleeping etc. The poops aren’t more frequent, just wet.

Wolfiefan · 09/11/2017 09:38

Bluths. Sleep deprivation. Puppies will need to go out at night and may need to sleep near you. And being chewed! Make sure you have lots of things you can offer the pup to chew instead of you!!

BiteyShark · 09/11/2017 09:39

Deepfried I mentioned that pro kolin wasn't helping anymore to my vet but he said still give it as it helps the stomachs natural bacteria. I used to take mine in when he was going frequently, mucus, blood, explosive diarrhoea or straining etc. However, you could always do a phone call just to ask whether you should do anything else (they usually tell me bland diet but I found that made things worse than his usual food). Have you upped the intake of food recently, even when well that would make mine more runny. Welcome to the poo problem group Sad

BiteyShark · 09/11/2017 09:40

Welcome Bluths get some sleep and all the house work done now before pup arrives Wink

GetTheStartyParted · 09/11/2017 09:44

Yay Grey!

Haha Bitey, mine has always been pretty calm at home.

Blithe, definitely sleep deprivation! My pup wasn't much of a biter and doesn't chew things she shouldn't have but she hates being alone. We are extending the time we can leave her gradually but it was very full on at the beginning, I don't think I knew how much work a puppy would be.

GetTheStartyParted · 09/11/2017 09:45

Ah, sorry Bluths, you were auto(in)corrected!

BluthsFrozenBananas · 09/11/2017 10:25

At the moment we’re planning to have the puppy sleeping in a pen next to me in the bedroom and I will bring her down for a wee in the night. We’ve gone a bit mad buying toys for her so she’s got plenty of things to chew on, and DD has been warned to keep her cuddlies out of puppy reach.

DeepfriedPizza · 09/11/2017 12:22

Bitey, the stool firmer has pro/pre biotics in it. I might get the pro Killian again anyway.

DeepfriedPizza · 09/11/2017 12:22

*kolin

BiteyShark · 09/11/2017 12:26

Deepfried sorry I wasn't clear in that I meant even if your stool firmer wasn't working to firm them it was probably still being helpful to the gut.

DeepfriedPizza · 09/11/2017 12:32

Good point.
The diarrhoea doesn’t bother her or us but the farts could knock out a rhino.

I’ve ordered the prokolin on amazon prime anyway. I’m sure we’ll need it again soon
