I've got the clippers out and done a lovely grade 3 all over. He's a spaniel but he stinks to high heaven and has rolled in fox poo for the 7th time this week. I cant get rid of the stink so Ive shaved him.

Will it be back in time for the colder weather do you think or am I going to have to buy one of those stupid doggy coats for him. He only gets a trim usually around May and again in July if its hot.

Really quick. 6 weeks and he will be a fluffy bastard again. I used to cut my spaniel monthly.

Great thanks LaurieFairyCake It shouldn't be too cold by then. Maybe I should check the long range weather forecast just in case Hmm

One of mine is very wooly and hard to brush. She goes from tidy to fluffy in 6 weeks with full on hair between her toes that she tries to chew out! The other one has more sleek hair that really feathers nicely and I would love to grow it out properly but it is hard to keep clean. You're saving some money doing it yourself OP, respect!

Yeh 6 weeks. :)

If this were in Style and Beauty I'd assume it was a quite different question...

6 weeks is about right. I do mine every 2 or 3 months, but shower and brush her in the meantime. I know I ought to do her more frequently though.

dudsville I probably would have paid for it but its got too much with the fox poo. Every morning this week hes found it. I swear theres some sort of beacon pinging away alerting him to where it is. I had Setters before this little shit spaniel and I never had to shave or bathe so often with them.

We have ours shaved short at the groomers every 6 weeks. It grows back quickly Grin

Surely only tiny dogs like chihuahuas need a coat anyway? My standard dachshund is a shorthair with seasonal alopecia which makes him lose hair in winter - but he refuses to walk in a coat or fleece. I can't imagine a spaniel standing still long enough to get cold.

ReinettePompadour · 27/08/2017 17:22

ErrolTheDragon He's a delicate little flower and does shiver if its even slightly chilly. But you're right he should be too busy rolling in fox poo to get too cold and need a coat.
