Bichon mating help!

user1471729756 · 26/08/2017 08:10

Hi just wondering if anyone could help, my Bichon has mated for the first time on monday just gone, so 5 days ago. Since then she has been off her food, more so the last couple of days, yesterday and today she's got abit diarreha and today she's being sick? Is this normal after mating? I'm abit worried

OP posts:
sparechange · 26/08/2017 08:18

Was it an accidental mating?
What breed was the other dog?

user1471729756 · 26/08/2017 08:33

No wasn't accidental and same breed

OP posts:
JigglyTuff · 26/08/2017 08:34

Why did you do that?

CaptWentworth · 26/08/2017 08:36

I would suggest the vet for a spay.

knockknockknock · 26/08/2017 08:49

She clearly wanted it mated (she's said not accidental) so why would anyone suggest the vets to get it spayed??

sparechange · 26/08/2017 08:51

So you are a wannabe backyard breeder?
First litter for both you and your dog, and you haven't got the first clue what you're doing or what to expect but fancied the cash?

Ylvamoon · 26/08/2017 08:58

Dont post things like this on NM - Unless you are a troll ....

sparechange · 26/08/2017 09:00

She clearly wanted it mated (she's said not accidental) so why would anyone suggest the vets to get it spayed?

Because her dog is showing symptoms from a potential infection so needs to be seen by a vet
I will bet my dollars that this money grabber didn't bother to check the dog is properly health checked, nor did either of them know how to supervise the mating properly, so there is a good chance the bitch is damaged and/or infected

A spay could be medicinally necessary if the infection has taken hold, and would be the kindest thing for her to spare her from more idiotic behaviour from her idiotic owner

Whitney168 · 26/08/2017 09:00

Or perhaps, just perhaps, OP has a decently bred, properly health-tested BF, has selected the same for a stud dog, and is hoping to breed a nice litter of pedigree puppies? That would not make them the devil, you know.

(I do appreciate that the odds against this are high though ...)

Anyway, bitch is mated, and no this is absolutely not normal post-mating. I would be worried that she has an infection from the mating, so vet's this morning, no delay.

CaptWentworth · 26/08/2017 09:01

Because getting the bitch spayed appears to be absolutely the best thing!

I am not anti-breeding, on the contrary, but someone who deliberately breeds their dog and then has to ask on MN for advice because they haven't got a clue is hugely irresponsible.

sparechange · 26/08/2017 09:06

Or perhaps, just perhaps, OP has a decently bred, properly health-tested BF, has selected the same for a stud dog, and is hoping to breed a nice litter of pedigree puppies?

When that is the case, the stud owner will offer post-mating help
So OP's first port of call would have been to the stud owner who, as an experienced breeder (they are very rarely just a stud owner and will also have breeding bitches) would have been able to offer advice

By coming here, it is fairly obvious this is a plan hatched by 2 people with pound signs in their eyes and nothing more
I will put more money on their plan being to advertise the pups on 'pets4homes' because that's where they bought their dogs from

JigglyTuff · 26/08/2017 09:07

The likelihood of that I would say is slim to none Whitney, given she hasn't got a fucking clue what she's doing.

Her dog is ill, she needs to take to the vet. Not ask for advice on a parenting forum

NoSquirrels · 26/08/2017 09:09

Almost regardless of the mating, your dog's been off her food for days, had diarrhoea and has now been sick. You need to take her to the vet, just as you would under the same circumstances if she hadn't been mated.

Please make a vet appointment now.

sanasa · 26/08/2017 09:16

Just. Why.
Poor dog.

MidniteScribbler · 26/08/2017 09:26

You need to go to the vet urgently. Ask for a 'day-saxing'. Vet will know what you mean.

GinIsIn · 26/08/2017 09:34

Worried about your dog, or all the money you might lose from flogging puppies? Hmm

Did you do proper research into health of the dog?

DragonBone · 26/08/2017 09:41

I'm an assured breeder with the KC, if one of my bitches displayed those symptoms I'd have her checked out by the vet, pyometra is always a concern with a Bitch in season and bred.

Do both dogs have the breed specific health tests in place ?
How old is your Bitch ?

Whitney168 · 26/08/2017 09:45

When that is the case, the stud owner will offer post-mating help

But perhaps she didn't feel able to call them this early on a Saturday morning?

I do know you're probably right though, just that it might be useful to find out more info before going on the attack.

JigglyTuff · 26/08/2017 10:06

Oh come on, Whitney!

sparechange · 26/08/2017 10:09

whitney
I don't know any first time breeders who's back up plan in the event of having queries is 'first time post on a parenting message board'

I don't know any responsible stud owners who would be happy with a first time breeder having 'posting a question on a parenting board' as the back up plan in case they have any questions at a perfectly respectable time on a weekend

This entire thing smacks of backyard breeding

If OP ever comes back, we will no doubt be told it's such a lovely dog so several friends and family wanted to have one of her pups

JigglyTuff · 26/08/2017 10:10

Let's hope the OP's not responding because she's taken her poor dog to the vet

pigsDOfly · 26/08/2017 10:24

No Whitney as much as you seem to want to think well of the OP. No one, but no one who breeds a dog in a responsible way would come on here asking this sort of question.

The OP is either wanting to stir things or is genuine, in which case the OP is a backyard breeder, and is clearly has absolutely clueless.

slinkysaluki · 26/08/2017 15:13

Mismated jab effective up to 45 I think. So may dogs in rescue do we need more

slinkysaluki · 26/08/2017 15:13

45 days

knockknockknock · 26/08/2017 22:56

@sparechange

Why do I always miss the real story? I must learn to read between the lines. The fact she hasn't replied would make it seem that your view was correct.

I've never bred pups - you can probably tell!
