Puppy behaving strangely

Puppy (4.5 month bitch) is behaving very differently this evening and I can't work out why or whether to worry - I am worrying.
She is currently lying down the other side of the room - she would normally be cuddled up to us.
When we got home this evening she seemed fine but then started behaving quiet and scared....head drooping, sloping around, sitting with her head laid on my leg with big eyes.... and now avoiding us.... it is such unusual behaviour and I can't think of a reason. She ate some of her dinner but not all of it.
Any ideas?

Our Bitch started doing this when she came into Season! & she still does it now (she's 4) she lies on her side/stomach , big soppy eyes, she gets hot so sprawls on the floor, and she sits the other side of the room: or hides in her bed like she's done something wrong! X

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I wondered about season, but isn't she too young????

Reproduction in dogs - season, heat, oestrus, pregnancy tests. Puberty or sexual maturity in the female dog usually occurs around six months of age. The smaller breeds tend to go into oestrus or "heat" earlier and some females can have their first "heat" cycle as early as four months of age.

So I suppose it depends on the size/breed of dog. X

She is a Springer Spaniel, Miniature poodle crops, so medium size... Tbh she seems better this morning, but we have only just got up. Was the heat behaviour constant?

No behaviour was On & Off, until she was in full swing and then she backed off again. Maybe she's not in season, but I'd google it & look of for the telltale signs x

Did you have any thunderstorms yesterday? One of my dogs hates thunderstorms she will act differently laying in an odd place, pacing and getting quite stressed when she hears it, could it be something like that has scared her?

sahbear · 09/08/2017 07:15

No thunderstorms. It all seemed very out of the blue. Went for a walk, dh said she did stop and lie down a couple of times, which is odd, but otherwise fine. Played happily with another puppy. Came home and started acting weird soon after we got in the door.

My pup did this a couple of months ago - went quiet and sleepy, not wanting to play etc. The next day she had diahhrea quite badly, and suspect prior to that she had stomach ache. She was so despondent I took her to the vet and she also had a temp. It all cleared up with antibiotics. Puppies can be prone to picking up random stomach bugs.

Rubberduckies · 09/08/2017 08:34

My Springer did exactly the same at around the same age. I was at work and Dh thought she was dying - he rushed her to the vet who said she was either coming into season or something scared her during the day. I'm inclined to think it was her season, it lasted about a week and we haven't seen it happen since she was spayed. She is utterly pathetic about most things so doesn't surprise me that she's huddle in a corner if she felt a bit uncomfortable!

Mine did this and then was ill at both ends, so keep an eye check she seems OK. Mine perked up the next day like nothing had happened.

If only they could talk!
