Puppies and babies can it ever work?

Long story short we've always had 2 dogs. Best friends. I loved having two, both were really well behaved.

Sadly dog1 died unexpectadly leaving dog2 alone aged 5.

Not only that I am missing my friend and the fun 2 dogs brought.

I am desperate to get another to take me back up to 2 however I am not sure how much of a task it would be to bring up and train a puppy along side my 2 year old child.

Am I asking for disaster here?

I would wait but I'm concerned dog2 will be getting older and the chances of him being able to play with a puppy in a few years aren't great as they are a large breed that slow fast.

I have spoken to the breed rescue who have advised to go for a puppy due to our circumstances. I also don't want another rescue as I don't want to take another problem dog as we've been there and done that many times. This time I want my own dog from scratch.

Is there a way to make this work or are we a dog one family forever now Sad

My dog died when DD1 was a baby and we got a puppy.. he's 2 months younger than DD1 and they are both about 2.

I'm not going to lie it has been difficult at times and I don't feel like I've bonded with him the same because I probably didn't get him at a sensible time. He doesn't really do much wrong but he's a pointer so can be annoying if he doesn't get a ton of exercise. He's actually quite well behaved though I think we've been stricter with him than we might have been without a baby.

If you really want one I'd go for it.
