Bent dew claw

My lab has bent his dew claw this evening. It's sticking out at right angles and bleeding slightly. He's restless and drinking loads but won't let me near him! What should I do?

Is your vet open today (ours is Saturday morning)? I would phone up and ask for advice as they may need to remove it if badly torn.

This exact thing happened to my lab a while back. They managed to clip it very short - I heard him scream from the waiting room ! Then a week later he did the other one - this time he had to be sedated to deal with it, not sure why as it wasn't removed but just clipped right back.

Ps should also have said we have since bought some nail clippers and now trim them ourselves to make sure they don't get too long and so less likely to get caught on stuff
