How long are golden retrievers in season for?

Mine is 11.5 months and yesterday was three weeks from when she started. I've been very careful with her and she only had two intact dogs show interest and it wasn't a serious attempt though we were both quick to move just in case. Today we had a different walk and she met a nearly two year old who showed interest. The owner wasn't sure if playing or wanting to mount so again we moved away. On our way home a dog ran over to her and did a lot of sniffing and interacting. I've no idea if a boy or girl and we came home.

I've phoned the vet and have been told the average is three weeks but a first season is longer sometimes. Her vulva looks almost back to how it was before and I've not noticed blood drops today but there were some about 2-3 days ago.

AwesomeDog is missing playing with other dogs so I don't want to keep her on lead if she's free to run Grin.

Thank you in advance.

My lab's second season went on a bit. After 3 weeks she looked ok and our intact boy dog had lost interest. I took her out for a long walk and it was a disaster...lept on by all and sundry! I kept her home for a further week then took her for an early morning swim in the river before meeting other dogs. All was ok then....apart from on persistent chap. It took another week for it to settle.

Are labs the same as retrievers in this regard?

It's nothing to do with breed. Seasons vary in length, usually three weeks from beginning to end whether she's a pug or a Great Dane.

My retriever took about 4 weeks to stop bleeding and the vet said to be careful for another week after that....felt like forever Grin

It seems odd that on day 22 is when a dog shows interest. She was not happy Grin.
Another week at least then Sad.

Seems like she's all done. Yay! Not yay at all was the woman today who informed me, apropos of nothing, that labradoodles go for a grand each. Ffs. AwesomeDog isn't a Labrador and I would hardly say oh yes, go on then to a random woman I'd met three seconds before Hmm.

The question now is, when do I get her done. Any advice? Seems there is a lot of conflicting suggestions.
