We are thinking of getting a Labrador puppy (probably a cross from a rescue place).
All the labs I know are great with kids.
We have a cat and someone is around for most of the day.
DH grew up with dogs. I didn't, so am starting some research.
Any Lab-owning Mumsnetters care to share your experiences?

Chocolate lab here too, mine doesn't like toddler sized children unfortunately. She hadnt come across many but has 'lazily' snapped at 2 that were in our house. She's better meeting kids outside the house, we just tell the parents that she's nervy around kids and we always stand between her and them

We are a Labrador family and my latest lovely lab is DH and my third lab. Hard work for the first couple of years, playful, mouthy and prone to distraction but eventually grow into great family dogs.
Our last one was 5yrs old when DS was born and was brilliant with him. When we lost her DS was lost without her but we left it 4yrs until we had another pup. DS is able to walk her himself and they are firm friends.
She is still a work in progress and at 18mnths still a challenge, but she is devoted to us and food ( not necessarily in that order). We can happily leave her for a few hours without her destroying her bed or anything we leave out.
There has been some collateral damage, my iPhone screen, several pairs of socks, the odd shoe and the lawn. As for pulling on the lead I found an old halti head harness in the garage which was an instant cure, I've noticed a lot of labs have them.
And she loves her home comforts as you can see from her photo.
