we've got an 11 yr, 4 mo old flat coated retriever and he has been heaving a lot in the hot weather and had to be admitted to the vet hospital today as he couldn't stop heaving - the vet thinks he's got laryngeal paralysis. They are thinking surgery, but we're wondering if this is a good idea given his age or whether we can manage the condition by avoiding any lengthy walks when the temp is over 15c.
