The vet last week said to start using it again. I said "oh, I don't need another tube; I've still got some."

It's only today I've read that it should be used within 6 weeks of opening.

Is it ok to use?
does it become ineffective after the 6 weeks?
or harmful?

TIA

I used some last week on my dog's itchy paw that had been open several months. It seemed to do the trick and the vet knew I was using it and didn't say I shouldn't.

The dog boarding place we use say they always have a tube in, because it's so useful. I think if it was actually harmful there would be very clear notices about discarding it after opening.

Thanks littlepearl.
It seems to be working here too so I'll ignore the wording for now. A good rouse to get us to throw it away and buy more huh?

It's that they can't guarantee against bacteria proliferation in the ointment after 6 weeks. Most of the time it is fine, very occasionally it is not.
