Oh forgot to say I left mine at around 13 weeks for up to 3 hours when I had to go into work but I had built up to that time. The only difference is he had access to a secure outside area if needed to pee and poo so he didn't have to hold it.

SkeletonSkins · 29/05/2017 09:28

Pup won't wake in the night forever - you will get there!

I think you will find it difficult if you are actually around pup - could you pop puppy in one room with a frozen kong or chew to keep her busy? We leave our pup in the front room for up to 4 hours after a walk and with a frozen carrot. He seems pretty content now - we've worked up to this since he was a baby

SkeletonSkins · 29/05/2017 09:29

I really wAnt to find out about flyball - I think our puppy would love it but he might be a little young yet.

bluetongue · 29/05/2017 09:36

Mine sleeps through the night and is pretty good with toileting but things like learning commands and recall is going slower than other puppies (partly my fault too.) There are so many variables and the most important thing is that they pretty much all get there in the end. It's such an emotional roller coaster though.

After saying what good condition Bluepuppy is in he's starting to look a bit ribby again. He is a good eater and has quality foods but is a very busy puppy and between mad zoomies and growth spurts just burns up the calories so fast. The joy of sight hound puppies I suppose.

Also, even though the feedback from most of my neighbours has been excellent I have had a very vague comment from my neighbour I don't talk to that he's an 'issue'. Some people will complain about anything though so I'm trying to not let it worry me but she would love to find something I'm doing wrong.

BiteyShark · 29/05/2017 11:29

Doh I didn't read your thread properly totally. I see you meant working at home. When he was very young it was difficult to keep a safe eye on him and work, I ended up working later to make up for the lost time. As he got the older he now sleeps or occupies himself.

Soubriquet · 29/05/2017 11:36

I think Lexa would love flyball as she adores chasing and bringing back....but I don't think she has much chance as a chihuahua Grin

I don't think you can start flyball training till at least 9 months because of the jumps.

Might be wrong but I know agility can't be learned till at least a year

blue do you know what they mean by an issue Confused. What an odd thing to say to you so yes smile and ignore.

bluetongue · 29/05/2017 11:56

No idea Biteyshark. My guess is me just having a dog is enough to be an issue for her, She would certainly be quick to let me know if he was too noisy I think.

Little Bluepuppy had a great time rolling in mud at daycare today. Of course I sent him in the smart new collar I only bought yesterday and now it's filthy. Sigh. At least he had fun Grin

BiteyShark · 29/05/2017 12:03

I have to throw all his collars and leads in the washer at least one a week as they get filthy and smell Sad

bluetongue · 29/05/2017 12:12

Do you just throw then straight the wash in or put them in say a pillowcase or similar first?

BiteyShark · 29/05/2017 12:23

I put them in a pillow case and tie it up very tightly and throw in his towel at the same time otherwise it sounds like I am washing a load of nuts and bolts Grin.

totallyliterally · 29/05/2017 12:35

Thanks all for the reassurance.

And yes I need to stop comparing!! I think I am worrying that her waking us is being caused / made worse by us. Although technically doing all the things 'right'

Regarding leaving her and working inneed to get my head around either leaving her in the kitchen or locked in her crate. She is locked in over night fine. So think need to just suck it up, wait today when she has done a wee and poo and put her in for 5 mins and if she cries leave her for a couple of mins to settle. And then build it up.

Does that sound right?

Soubriquet · 29/05/2017 12:36

Any tips on getting madam to eat?

She's eaten nothing but boiled chicken breast the last 24 hours.

I mixed it with dog biscuits and she ate around them..even spat them out at one point

I'm trying now soaking them so it becomes a softer paste to see if she will eat that

Chicken is good but I can't see her getting full nutrients from it

Soubriquet is she otherwise well? No temperature, runs etc?

Mine went through a couple of fussy stages and I tried a couple of different kibbles. I was always mindful that he didn't just eat treats so I only gave them after he had eaten most of his kibble. One thing I did have to do when he needed to eat but turned his nose up was to sprinkle very finely grated cheese over it so he could not pick it out as it was too fine so to eat it he had to eat his kibble.

Soubriquet · 29/05/2017 12:51

Oh yeah she's well.

Currently doing puppy zoomies Hmm

I think she's teething

OP posts:
SkeletonSkins · 29/05/2017 12:51

soub is she unwell or being picky? If she's unwell I'd just feed her what she'd eat, if she's being picky I think if you're soaking it etc sometimes you have to be tough and offer nothing else. Have you tried the fish 4 dogs food? I sometimes use it as treats as it seems to smell quite strongly and so the dogs like it.

I've spoken to a flyball club today and they said although he can't do the jumps etc for a while they do have a beginners class which looks at targeting the ball and foundations which sounds good fun! Going to go along on Saturday and see what it's like - if it's too much for him it's something I can keep in mind for when he's a little bit older.

blue your neighbour sounds bizarre - some people have issues with everything.

BiteyShark · 29/05/2017 13:04

Skeleton sounds fun and I find things like that are just nice to do as it makes a change from just walking the dog.

Soubriquet · 29/05/2017 13:21

Heads up....

Mushy fish4dogs bloody stinks

Hello can I join? We have just got a puppy shihtzu believed to be 8 weeks last Monday but when we transferred chip details found out her DOB was 10/4 so it makes her 7 weeks today. She was at vet for check and everything seems fine back next week for first vaccination and another health check.
She is now eating better and getting playful.

BiteyShark · 29/05/2017 17:32

splisplash welcome. Oh dear did the breeder tell you the wrong age?

Soubriquet · 29/05/2017 17:35

Noooo mum don't make me walk!!!

Actually this walking business is quite nice

Little shit. She refuses to walk until she's had off lead time. Once she's been offlead for a little while, she walks like a dream. Even when put back on a lead.

I end up having to carry her to where I take her offlead and then letting her walk home

Wolfiefan · 29/05/2017 17:42

Oh bless. Not a little shit.
We've had an interesting day. So proud of my pup. She's been scared of people and we were at a massive show today. The result?

splisplash · 29/05/2017 17:44

Biteyshark
Yes they did Angry we have had her since end of last week so she was a tiny 6week old

BiteyShark · 29/05/2017 17:52

Soubriquet awww you can't blame her for being a bit difficult it is so restrictive on a lead when she wants to run around Grin

Wolfiefan is that two rosettes I can see. Bet the others were jealous Envy

splisplash how awful as you probably would not have accounted for her age thinking she was older Sad

Soubriquet · 29/05/2017 17:57

Wow! Well done wolfiepup

There's a dog show in July here I'm hoping to take Lexa too

I did well with a previous dog Evee

She won prettiest bitch and reserve best in show at one show. Got two rosettes and a voucher for £20

And prettiest bitch, best trick and best costume (Christmas show) and best in show at another. Got 4 rosettes £70!
