It was bliss. We are in the fens so there is a good 5 miles minimum of river bank walks. We obviously didn't do the full 5 miles as she's too little but what we did she enjoyed

Soubriquet sounds like little Lexa is doing wonderfully Smile

I'm going to take Bluepuppy to the dog park for a bit of a run around before work tomorrow. My mum will be coming around later in the morning so if he be tired and sleep until then it would be great. He seems to be okay to be away from me as long as he's with other people or dogs.

Soubriquet · 30/05/2017 11:50

She is

She's had a bit of a regress with her toiletting and she will not go to the toilet on a walk either but we are getting there

Oh blue :-(

I am going to second the idea of talking to a behaviouralist and getting some help. It may mean going back a few steps and relearning behaviour: will you be able to leave him for shorter periods for a little while or have your parents visit a little more often for a few weeks?

As a remainder: 10 days ago I had a pup who barked at anything and everything on lead: he was right at the end of the lead, barking like a mad dog. I was definitely in 'back to the breeder' space - I just couldn't see how we could get through it. I cried and cried. A week later, and it's like having a different dog.

I have had to take a breath, and not try and rush things: so pup is great in a single park, so it's now about moving that behaviour across to some other places now (first new place - two visits down and only one little bark - hurray!) - I would definitely have tried to move too fast if she hadn't been there to guide me. I'm not walking him on pavements yet, and that's hard for me having read so much 'socialise, socialise, socialise' stuff. But I'm confident that we have a plan and that makes it manageable. I'm sure you can get to the same space with bluepup. He sounds very loved :-)

BiteyShark · 30/05/2017 11:53

My 'D'Dog is being a pain at the moment. He must be having a hormonal surge [bloody teenagers]. This weekend he has been naughty, defiant and very full on. This was not helped by a squirrel running up the bird feeder right in front of him, how he didn't smash the patio door glass trying to get to it I have no idea.

towelpintpeanuts · 30/05/2017 11:54

And thanks for the bedtime routines, bitey and wolfie - I'm thinking we need to move pup into his crate a bit earlier in the evening. But it's so nice to have a puppy to snuggle whilst watching TV Grin

bluetongue · 30/05/2017 12:05

Puppy snuggles in front of the telly are the best. I'm getting my fix now before Bluepuppy gets too big Grin

The trainer that took his puppy pre school class is going to help me. She also runs the daycare he goes to so knows him very well.

BiteyShark · 30/05/2017 12:14

towelpintpeanuts is it just that DPup is reluctant to go into the crate that you are thinking of moving it to an earlier time?

Mine is now so used to me calling him in to the kitchen for his last pee, he sees the baby gate closed and head down steps into the crate knowing it's bed time. He would stay with us all night if he could but he knows the routine now Grin

towelpintpeanuts · 30/05/2017 12:43

He's just so sparko by the time we want to move him that it's tough to bring him round: couple of times he's got a bit growly in exactly the way I would if someone tried to move me at 2am ;-) We've been moving it slightly earlier which I think is probably a smart idea!

BiteyShark · 30/05/2017 12:46

Ah yes I can understand that. Fortunately mine is just dopey if I try and move him Grin

SkeletonSkins · 30/05/2017 12:52

Blue isn't your puppy very young still? Could you set up a camera or something to see the extent of the howling? Howling for ten mins when you leave is very different to howling the entire time. Is there anywhere you can leave the pup that is not attached to your neighbour? We had an issue with our older dog barking and we worked out our kitchen is entirely detached so left him in there for a long time.

Being with our other dog makes a huge difference for our puppy, and I much prefer having two dogs. Definitely something to consider for the future.

splisplash · 30/05/2017 17:36

How do people deal with the puppy awake all night.
During the day she will fall asleep anywhere and everywhere during the night she has a quick 10min sleep then back up wanting to play.

splisplash · 30/05/2017 17:50

Sorry the app never showed me the rest of the posts. I'll just do dinner for children and then have a read of them all

BiteyShark · 30/05/2017 18:17

splisplash I just did outside for toilet and then back in crate with no words or playing at night, admittedly many times when really young. After a while they get used to night being non play time (keep lights low/off etc).

Soubriquet · 30/05/2017 20:56

Anyone who thinks chihuahuas are handbag dogs obviously hasn't met mine

We've done over 20 mins of throwing a tug toy and bringing it back with a good rough and tumble tugging....she's now pulling my slipper and fighting with that

I'll have to video her one day to show how rough she plays!

I can pick up the toy with her hanging on the end of it for a couple of seconds

Wolfiefan · 30/05/2017 20:59

Chihuahuas are basically Staffies that have been through a boil wash no?! Tough as old boots.
Mine is mostly eating the garden today!

Soubriquet · 30/05/2017 21:05

Very good description Grin

Gosh she looks good. Lovely weight and everything to her . She's getting big too isn't she?

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 30/05/2017 21:31

Lovely? You're missing the point! She's eating the bloody garden! Grin
She's rapidly heading for 50kg. Trying to balance feeding her enough to fuel the growth and not enough to make her fat. It's very bad for this breed to be fat or grow too big too fast. She can easily reach the work tops and sits on my foot whilst resting her head on my hip. For scale photo in March. I'm not a short person!
All other photos show my face! (Think I'm outed anyway!)

Wolfiefan · 30/05/2017 21:31

Have I mentioned that I bloody love this dog?! Blush

Soubriquet · 30/05/2017 21:34

Ah she's a big dog...she's gotta eat Grin

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 30/05/2017 21:42

Got told at the weekend she was too big as I couldn't see her hip bones. Apparently I should always keep her hungry and she shouldn't know what treats are?Shock
Life's too short to live like that.
It's like having a baby. Everyone has an opinion. Smile and nod ot tell them to do one?! Grin

DaisyChainsForever · 30/05/2017 21:48

Apologies if this has already been covered - any tips on getting pup to wee/poo when out for a walk? She holds it in the whole time we're walking and waits til she's back in the garden! 🙈

Soubriquet · 30/05/2017 21:53

Mine does the same daisy....

And there's lean and skinny.... you should be able to see the ribs but feel a nice layer of fat over them too. Not just skin and bone

Your pup looks perfect

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 30/05/2017 21:59

I think she's perfect!
When we were toilet training I would use the same word. Good girl pup wee wee. She now goes on request. Very handy if you have to leave her for a bit or go in the car and you want her to go first. She doesn't poo on request!

BiteyShark · 31/05/2017 04:46

DaisyChainsForever I think when mine went eventually I just went over the top with praise so they got the message that going on walks was good. It does help having a key word so if you had one when you did toilet training try and use it when walking especially if sniffing round grass (assuming your dog goes on grass at home)
