When can puppies go outside?

I've had conflicting advice about this, what's the general opinion?

Based on my own research I'd rather have puppy out and socialising (in our arms obviously) and risk the teeny chance of him picking something up.

I am confused about our own (very securely fenced) garden...I'd rather have him out to toilet as soon as we get him home at 8ish weeks, but very happy to be corrected if this isn't safe or acceptable! I have had advice which suggests I can't even open the door until 12 weeks & final jab...

I let my 8 week puppy in my garden. The risk versus toilet training was discussed with my vet and deemed to be low.

As far as I've been told, a private garden should probably be ok around 8-10 weeks, so long as no other dogs can access it. Going into a public area should wait until after all vaccinations.

Going into the garden is fine whatever age as long as unvaccinated dogs haven't been in there. Many breeders will start letting pups in the garden before you get them.

The puppy shouldn't be let on the ground outside your garden until after vaccinations but can be Carried in your arms to places like the park, schools, pet shop etc to get used to sounds and people. Also other dogs if you know they have been vaccinated. They say that the risk of a dog not being socialised properly is just too high as it can lead to lots of problems later on and the socialisation window closes at around fourteen weeks or so.

There is lots of info on the web about best places to socialise puppy before being fully vaccination.

I was told by my vet that as long as other dogs or foxes couldn't get into the garden it's fine for them.

Also as long as puppy stays in your arms and doesn't have contact with other dogs they can go anywhere.

I think the only problem is possible contact with dogs who do not have up to date jabs. As far as I know, if you know dogs with up to date jabs they can meet your puppy. But check that with your vet.

On the vaccination point speak to vet. There is different protocols dependent on age of pup when given first vaccination and which type of vaccine your vet uses. My pup was allowed out and about x days after the first vaccine.

They can go into private garden from day one.

Yes, our vet had said fine to go in garden at 8 weeks...very rare to get cases of parvovirus in the area.

Interestingly it was the breeder who has said no outside (at all) until 12 weeks 🤔 which is why I'm feeling confused! I definitely don't want to end up with an undersocialised dog.

I took my puppy out and about from day 1. She mixed with other dogs too. I built up her own immunity.

She's super healthy, not had a thing wrong with her.

By the time you wait until they have all their jabs you've missed a huge chunk of the crucial socialising phase

Besides they still have their mothers immunity (that's if it's less than 18 weeks?)

Our older dog met her first other dogs when she was about 10 weeks she met my brothers 2 dogs plus his girlfriends dog which is an Italian spinone. I'm not sure if you know what one is as I didn't before I met one but he is massive! Lola is a pug and was tiny as a puppy mewing this horse of a dogGrin she handled it very well and it's great for them to meet dogs of all different sizes when young to help them cope when they meet similar sized dogs at the park. But I cannot tell you how terrified I was that day in case she was eaten!

Pups have a certain amount of immunity from their mum until about 16 wks.

In the garden as soon as he got home at 8 weeks, first vac a few days later and he would come out and about with me, in areas of high dog population (such as parks) where I didn't know the vaccine status of dogs he would be carried, he was allowed free play with vaccinated dogs belonging to friends. After 2nd vac he went everywhere.

I just got a puppy for the first time. I was researching on the topic when I found this resource: workhabor.com/when-can-puppies-go-outside-in-the-yard/. According to the site, you are safe to take your puppy outside in the yard when they are 14-18 weeks. At this time, the puppy has lower risks of acquiring canine parvovirus and other dangerous dog diseases.

What breed is the dog.

Get them outside early on.

I would be a bit worried and would want to ask the breeder a lot about how they are socialising the puppies before you get them. If they are not taking them out and about at all that would be a concern to me but would depend on the home situation
