I've had some brilliant advice here under another user name and wondered if anybody has successfully treated or at least managed fungal ear infection.
Dog is a 48kg mongrel, 3 years old, mum was a Labrador which is all we know of him. He has big floppy ears which are obviously perfect for yeast to thrive in. He is raw fed on Nature's Menu frozen meat with the addition of their mixer.
I've spent hundreds at the vets and have tried various ear medicines. He recently had his ear examined and cleaned under GA - within 5 days that familiar smell was back and his ear as disgusting as ever.
I've been given Otodine to clean his ears with and he will be starting anti-fungal medication soon. He's not in pain but frequently shakes his head. He doesn't swim. Vet has suggested an allergy challenge where I'd feed him cooked fish and potato for 3 months before reintroducing potential triggers. I am willing to try this but can't for a few weeks. We're going away and I think it's a bit much taking 20 bags of frozen fish and a sack of spuds to the dog minder and ask her to cook it for him!
I've read online discussions suggesting apple cider vinegar or coconut oil to treat but it's all a bit confusing. I was hoping for some words of wisdom from experienced dog owners, I'm a newbie at this!
