Some days they just melt your heart don't they?

Blush I'm not generally soppy over Eric although I love him dearly but at times he is so sweet even I feel mushy over him.
Today was grooming day, Eric hates it (but manages to behave there and they seem genuinely happy to see him so all good) and he sulks from the minute you mention "going to see the ladies" Grin
He needs carrying into the car whereas he usually leaps in and them sits with his back to you. He refuses to get out of the car so end up carrying him in and putting him down where he alternates between hiding behind my legs or standing on two legs to get me to pick him up.The groomer then has to carry him through because he refuses to walk.
Three hours later I go to pick him up and can hear him from the car park crying and howling. I walk in and he gets even louder and ask if he's been ok to be told he'd heard the car ( he recognises ours from every other car at home too) They have his next appointment ready because he goes berserk when they bring him through shrieking with joy and running circuits.
Nobody else but Eric has ever been as happy to see me each and every time he's been left tbh. There's no wonder he has a special spot really.
What do you dogs do that melts your heart?

Do you really need to send him if he hates it so much?
We have a scruffy hairy lurcher and a hairless Whippet so don't know if dogs actually need grooming.
Am not sure there was even such a thing as dog groomers years ago.

stayathomegardener · 04/05/2017 22:33

But in the spirit of the thread 1 Ddog places a paw gently on my knee for a fuss. The other just launches onto me.
Definitely heart melting.

1nsanityscatching · 04/05/2017 22:51

He's a poodle cross so has to be clipped regularly so don't take him for vanity's sake.He wouldn't be able to walk if his feet weren't trimmed. It's probably more that it's the only time he's left outside of our house rather than because of the grooming to be fair because he actually loves a bath and a brush and is a little angel for the groomers whilst they trim him.
He's fine about being left at home though just doesn't like to be away from me and home at the same time. He's pretty spoilt and needy I think, my fault obviously Blush

I wrote a long post and then lost it.
Mine melts my heart when:
She leans on me
She's desperate for a cuddle in the morning as she hasn't seen me for hours
She sits on my foot
She backs into me when the world gets too scary.
She nudges me for treats or reassurance.
She charges into my arms when we do recall at training
She looks at me all innocent but WTF at the same time when I say her name and ask her to stop being a moobag
She laughs at me
She leaps at me in play
She runs laps around the garden like a loon
Mainly as she exists and she's my heart hound
And there's this!

Some days they just melt your heart don't they?

Wolfiefan that pic made MY heart melt!!

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 05/05/2017 07:28

She flops herself down on me and sleeps instantly regardless of the position that either of us are in and that she is too big for my lap.
She is happy to see me even when I have been out of sight for lass than two mins.
She sadly watches me leave when I go to work.
If she is lucky enough to come to work for a day she behaves like an angel PAT dog (something we don't see at home Grin).
She adores her human brother and participates on every adventure imaginary and real.

Saucery · 05/05/2017 07:29

She's grown up with DS and loves it when he gets down on the floor and plays with her. She's always superhappy when any of us come home and we absolutely must have a Precious Thing from her toy box (or a shoe, or a ball of wool).

MovingtoParadise · 05/05/2017 07:36

An enormous freight train went passed us on the platform - huge, long, incredibly can't-hear-yourself-talk noisy, created lots of wind.

My tiny terrier faced the noise and stared at it, the only sign she was a bit scared was she wiggled her butt backwards to sit on my foot. Her ears flapped madly in the wind created.

I LOVE her bravery and feistiness. And how totally up for the world she is.

PacificDogwod · 05/05/2017 08:17

Wolfie, is that your pup?! Wow Grin

DHound is not allowed upstairs, it is a dog-free zone. And he knows this.
But is unhealthily attached to me, so any time I go upstairs he suffers, in most dramatic fashion: there is pacing, and whining, and staring up the stairs going on (even if I literally run up to get something and come straight back down AND other family members are around, offering him attention and treat Grin).

But - he stays put.
He is clearly SO conflicted and would love to come and join me trip me up by being Right Behind me, but he stays.

To be fair, that is the only thing I have been able to teach him reliably.
Re-call? Not so much.... Hmm

Also, love his love of carrots. He comes and begs for carrot at dinner time Grin

My dog's infectious love of life makes my heart melt - every single day is The. Best. Day. Ever. 😊

SparklingRaspberry · 05/05/2017 13:32

I expected to read this thread with a smile on my face. Instead I feel quite sad for your dog

He clearly doesn't like it. Why are you forcing him into something he hates?

SparklingRaspberry · 05/05/2017 13:32

Can't you find a groomers where you can stay and watch?

There's obviously a reason why he doesn't like it

Hoppinggreen · 05/05/2017 14:43

DH was out late the other night and ddog needed his last walk before bed. DH usually takes him round the woods at the back of our house but I didn't want to do it myself in the dark so me and the DC took him out on the grass at the front of our house. The dog was sniffing around as usual when suddenly he shot in front of DS who was nearest to the path into the woods and his hackles went up and he started growling at something. A couple of people came out of the woods and ddog stood in front of us growling at them until they went past.
He is normally such a softie who loves everyone but he was definitely protecting us, I was very proud of him.
He also uncharacteristically growled at BIL ( who he doesn't know) when he grabbed DS and started to play fight with him

Wolfiefan · 05/05/2017 16:26

Yes that's wolfie pup. And she is actually a wolfhound. I took that pic as she was so stupidly proud of herself and was just laughing! Made me smile.

1nsanityscatching · 05/05/2017 16:42

He's not traumatised by being groomed I promise, he sulks because I'm leaving him there because we spend most of every day together. He doesn't cry or howl the whole time he's there (they couldn't work with that racket) only when he hears our car, the groomer sees the first howl as a prompt to get him ready to leave as he starts as we get to the end of the drive.
The groomer gets a kiss from Eric as we leave and on the one occasion we saw her out and about Eric greeted her like a long lost friend so think he's happy in her care just prefers to be with me.
I once went in my daughter's car to collect him because I was worried that he was miserable despite their assurances and he was as happy as Larry, curled up half asleep and not crying or howling.
I couldn't really stay with him as he'd be constantly trying to come to me and I think he'd be more upset that they were preventing him tbh.
Sorry I didn't mean to worry anyone he really is ok just very attached to me, literally sometimes (like now when he's sat on my shoulder as I type) .
