Maybe the people on the puppy survival thread would like to hide this one! Anyone else got their hands full?

Pup does play with tennis balls, she likes to drop and chase them round the house a bit like cat and mouse. The result is they spend most of the time under various prices of furniture with her lying on her side trying to squeeze her paw under to get the tennis ball out Grin. She is a sucker not a chewer of soft toys and spends a lot of time with a toy between her paws "needing" it and sucking the life out of it.

SHE STOLE THE CHEESE!!; It was at the back of the worktop and i only went to answer the door for a delivery - a whole flippin block - Arghhhhhh

BiteyShark · 02/05/2017 17:49

Haha we cannot leave any cheese out as that is DDogs favourite food.
jugot bet your DDog is feeling very happy right now Grin

jugotmail · 04/05/2017 14:17

Bitey she hid under the table - the default position for "i know that i have done wrong" but her face did say that it was worth it!

jugotmail · 04/05/2017 14:23

For your teenage girls can I recommend 'Beaphar calming spot on' its a valerian based drop that you put on by their ears and lasts about a week. It has transformed the hormonal, hyper cheese thief into a calm and dozy snuggler - just waiting for the munchies to kick in now. I havent tried anything like this before (and other brands are available) but I picked this up in my local Wilkos after she climbed on the dining table and tried to nip me for an hour this morning and its worked a treat.

Cannot wait for this season to end, poor puppy.

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 04/05/2017 14:23

I threw a stick into the stream for pup this morning, she bounded in after it but then the water touched her tummy Shock. The backed out again so fast she didn't even turn around Grin. She has only swum once when she was 8 weeks old and fell in the pond.

BiteyShark · 04/05/2017 14:27

wolf just saying on the puppy thread that DDog went to the beach for the first time today and decided to try and chase a seagull by swimming out into the sea. Given all the salt and sand we ended up having to shower him when we got back so I wish mine still had a hate of water likes yours Grin

Fab41 · 04/05/2017 15:28

Can I join in? We have a 6 month old Irish terrier who has decided to go all teenage in the last couple of weeks. I am now using a whistle for recall with higher vakue treats which seems to be helping, but he does want to talk to everyone. And jump up, and bounce on them. He is still so adorable that he gets away with it most of the time.
Also counter surfing, and he has such a long head and tongue! We alsk have a 4 yr old border terrier who trues to keep him in line, byt when she decided to join in the play, it becomes full on madness around the house. It has resukted in a few time outs in his crate, which thankfully he still accepts.

As ITs are so rare I'm surprised that there are three on this thread alone, then I remember - they are Irish terriers, of course their owners are on a survival thread Grin. Here is a photo of mine who is now nearly 8 months.

Bitey, how did your mini break go? Hope your DPup loved the beach, we are lucky to live in Cornwall so never far from a beach, pup views the sea with deep suspicion.

BiteyShark · 04/05/2017 18:35

wolf DDog absolutely loved his break. He had a fab time as he does way more active things with the person who looks after him so he came back happy and tired. Me on the other hand found the break really hard as I missed him more than I thought so he has been spoilt since he came back.

Cornwall is fab and we are planning a holiday with the dog there for next year in a dog friendly cottage. DDog loved the sea but unfortunately when he started to swim out we noticed a rip current several meters in front of him taking all the water out from the bay and panicked but fortunately he turned round with the blow of the whistle. My heart was in my mouth for a short time.

BiteyShark · 05/05/2017 05:52

Arghhh had a bit of a regrsssion last night. DDog has gone happily in his crate at night since we had him (bar the first couple of weeks). I have a camera on the crate so I can hear and see him and middle of the night he starts to cry and jump up to be let out. So unusual I go and let him out in case he was ill and he had a small pee but then just wanted to PLAY Confused. It was just like being back at 8 weeks old Sad. Had to steer him back in the crate and walk out but he was hyper alert for another hour on the camera.

It wasn't his first night back after his holiday so I doubt it was that. He also had a similar 'thing' a few weeks ago with being left alone which stopped after a couple of days of ignoring it but now we have this at night [sobs].

Anyone else had similar?

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 05/05/2017 07:57

We ditched the crate months ago, pup always slept in it but as I never shut the door it was just taking up a lot of space.
Recall is our issue at the moment- it's great when there are no distractions but as soon that there is a dog who will play with her or a person who will say hello to her I may as well not exist Hmm.

BiteyShark · 05/05/2017 08:10

Yeah recall is hit and miss for us as well. He went all crazy eyed again last night in the woods and it took several whistles to get him back. Bloody hormones Confused

Roll on adult dog hood Grin

We have the crate as he can get bitey and it is huge so he isn't very restricted, think big play pen. Small to medium sized dog in a massive XL crate Grin

FoxesAreFabulous · 05/05/2017 10:16

Fab41 and wolf, your pups are lovely! I think that's what I want next Grin. I am now taking the view that if I can cope with our furry little sod, it's excellent preparation for another furry little sod in a few years! Recall is seriously AWOL at the moment - it was all going so well in the park this morning until poodle boy spotted two other dogs across the park and off he went! Wouldn't even come back at the sight of the ball chucker, which is usually failsafe - I had to go and get him and it took several attempts to get his lead back on as he kept running away.

Mumalade · 05/05/2017 13:08

Hello, can I join in?! I have a six and a half month working cocker spaniel pup who seems to have forgotten everything he's ever learnt! We went to puppy classes and were warned this would happen, but it's still quite a shock!

BiteyShark · 05/05/2017 13:15

Mumalade my working cocker is 7 months old and I am having to try and reinforce all the basics all the time. Recall is the worst of those, today's trip out in the forest again was painful with him going off to hunt Sad

Mumalade · 05/05/2017 14:25

That's reassuring to hear BiteyShark - in the nicest of ways! I was beginning to think there was something wrong with my dog! Don't suppose your pup has gone a bit 'jumpy' too? Not jumping up - although we get plenty of that! - but he seems quite nervous a lot of the time (he was never the most confident of puppies, but he's worse on occasions now). I think I saw somewhere that yours is a small working cocker - mine is tiny too.

BiteyShark · 05/05/2017 14:34

Yes he is small in comparison with other dogs. I go to a gun dog training class and although he is the youngest he is still small when I look at the other dogs and I don't think he will get much bigger but should fill out as he is skinny. At least with him being on the small side for a medium breed he should mature fairly quickly which is what I keep telling myself when he gets all defiant Grin

He has always been a fairly confident dog but does have his moments as he has just been barking and squaring up to a bin bag blowing in the wind Hmm and I have noticed he does tend to bark more at odd noises he hears.

Yokohamajojo · 05/05/2017 14:56

Thewolfsjustapuppy recall is the issue here too! He really is so good when we're on our own but other dogs are the issue! I still use the long line as it gives me some extra confidence!

He was an utter little so and so on last night's walk, managed to almost pull me into the river and then proceeded to back out of his harness! no idea how he did that.

Another issue if on lead is that he lies down when he sees another dog. Can be quite wearing if the dog is some distance away as he just refuses to move until the other dog has passed and I have bribed him with treats.

Lovely teenage pictures, here is a recent one of my Terriorist

BiteyShark · 05/05/2017 16:03

What is it about recall [sobs]? Today's second walk was so bad I ended up putting the lead on and coming home as he just would not come back and I stood there for 10 mins whilst he ran in every direction except to me.

Yokohamajojo · 05/05/2017 16:57

It's so annoying! I am hoping that we instilled the basics and that he eventually will be good! I am sure BiteyDog will too! I guess we're also lucky that we have good areas to walk in even though we are in London (suburbia)

BiteyShark · 05/05/2017 17:05

Yes this phase will pass and then adulthood Grin

weegiemum · 05/05/2017 18:03

We're in the middle of it too - weegiepup is 11 months old. He's a labradoodle, mad as a box of frogs with so much energy. Along with 3 teenage dc its an interesting mix!

Recall has gone, mouthing is improving, I'm doing lots of training with him but I'm not sure its going in. Then again he was at the groomers for the first time last Saturday, full clip, bath, the works and they all swore blind he was lovely and no bother!

If he would just come when we call, it would be fine!

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 05/05/2017 19:01

[feeling smug] I was so on it with this evenings walk I didn't have to test recall. Every time I heard another owner or saw a dog I clipped the lead on and walked swiftly in the other direction! I wont mention that this morning I had to resort to hiding in order to get pup to return.
Yokopup is gorgeous! How old?
Foxpup is lovely too, what a sweet face. I have no experience with poodles or poodle crosses but I think adolescent pups are all a handful whatever the breed.
