Maybe the people on the puppy survival thread would like to hide this one! Anyone else got their hands full?

Lovely weather for camping Yoko, have a good time.
Sloegin, I have promised myself that when Cocopup is all growed up and sensible we will wait for the owner of that puppy to catch us up with the stream of apologies about recall being a work in progress and be sympathetic! To be fair most local dog walkers have been very kind and the odd few that walked on possibly had dogs who don't like being hassled by pups.
Have to say Cocopup excelled herself yesterday off lead at our local country park. No running off to find other dogs, meeting and greeting politely, sitting and waiting when joggers and cyclists went by. Just wish she could behave like that when on lead😡

How are teenage pups getting on with the heat? Mine is definetly feeling it and more sleepy than usual.

BiteyShark · 25/05/2017 14:50

Mine can't get comfy at all with the heat. He keeps trying to find the ultimate spot to flake out on Grin

Cocobananas · 25/05/2017 20:29

We left Cocopup lying on patio whilst we cooked and had supper but have now brought her in to flake out whilst we watch tv. I have left kitchen patio doors open to cool down where she sleeps. Also taken up vet bed and replaced with an old duvet on top of her memory foam bed plus a cool mat nearby.

MipMipMip · 25/05/2017 23:42

MipHound is really struggling. Tried gravy ice cubes but very unimpressed. Not getting out until late and still lying down loads.

BiteyShark · 26/05/2017 07:06

We had the fan on our dog last night. Poor thing was still hot as he slept a lot of the night on his back stretched out Sad.
The bonus though is that on our walks he isn't running off much because he can't be bothered with the heat Grin

Yokohamajojo · 26/05/2017 09:06

Yep Yokopup is also struggling a bit in the heat! he likes ice cubes though. He actually lied down on his walk with DH yesterday so they chilled out in the shade for a while! very jealous sitting in a stifling office

FoxesAreFabulous · 26/05/2017 12:14

Yoko if you're still having trouble with eye drops - we had a bugger of a job getting drops into poodle boy's eyes a while back, when he got conjunctivitis, as he kept trying to bite when we put them in, he hated them! He also got wise to every trick we tried so things would work once and then never again! I also recommend the vet hold, as Mip said - after much trial, error, swearing and wasted eye drops, what worked for me was to wrap pup in a blanket or sheet so he couldn't get his paws out to bat me away, kneel on the floor with him between my knees, facing outwards, put my thumb and forefinger round his muzzle and put the drop in, followed by much fuss and a special treat. He didn't like it to start with but quickly got used to it and if I ever needed to put eye drops in again, I could now just sit in front of him and open his eye with my fingers Grin. I have to say, if we ever have another puppy, that's one thing I would have been doing from Day 1 so they got used to having their eyes opened!

Yokohamajojo · 26/05/2017 12:59

Foxes He really is very good now! We only have to do it twice a day so the morning one is done by me and DH, couldn't do it myself. DH holds him and I drop it in. The eye that was effected looks really good now so now I am not sure how long to do it for? My husband went to the Vet and he is useless at asking the important questions that you may need to knowShock Smile

I agree though that getting them used to these things is a good idea!! Can't believe we have already been to the vet twice in his short life. First was the tick which I removed and he got a nasty bump and was sore and now the eye!

Cocobananas · 27/05/2017 20:01

Well, I woke up with the thunder and lightening last night, listened out for Cocopup whining etc but nothing. However, she has been tired and a bit off all day today so imagine she did not get a good nights sleep either. Hopefully be a bit fresher tonight.

BiteyShark · 28/05/2017 06:20

At least the thunderstorm has cooled the temperature down a bit. We were all struggling with the heat at night Sad

BiteyShark · 30/05/2017 07:48

Shoot me now Sad. DDog is being a defiant pain in the backside. He keeps rippling things up in the garden and I know he knows it's wrong as he does this 'ha ha you can't catch me dance' when he has something he shouldn't. I think it is going to be a long day today Shock

Cocobananas · 30/05/2017 09:08

Bitey, feel your pain. Mine does the dance away when I throw ball for her whilst out walking but never in the garden where she brings it back every time. Can't use squeaky ball anymore for distraction from other dogs because madam decided that it is far too valuable a resource and started growling and being arsey down the park so she doesn't have it there anymore. Seriously thinking about confining ball play to garden only.

So angry! Saw a woman hip ahead with two collies. One ran off, she ran chasing it yelling. MipHound saw something interesting happening so he ran to join in. I ran after him yelling. When I got there the woman had just caught hers, I didn't have miphound yet. She scowled as i passed and i heard her say (to the effect of but using name)
"MipHound needs training"
I responded. "Excuse me, your dog was doing exactly the same"
"Well at least I train him!" (Or similar - was hard to hear)
"With respect (proud of that bit!) We both saw a dog run off and misbehaving and know nothing else about the situation" (Really can't remember exact words).

She then stomped off. It was the hypocrisy that got me - MipHound was misbehaving but no worse than her's. The only reason she got him first was she was nearer - in fact if she hadn't indicated that there was likely to be trouble by trying putting hers on the lead I wouldn't have bothered. In fact MIP does go to training regularly and just a few days ago someone was saying it's amazing how much he has come on.

In the unlikely event that woman is reading now I hope your rudeness was down to embarrassment. Because the effect you gave was that you are a cowbag.

BiteyShark · 17/06/2017 05:22

MipMipMip that would have annoyed me as well. Yesterday I thought we had passed a dog with enough distance before letting mine off but no he ran back and both of us had a short struggle to get them to continue in the opposite direction. I shouted an apology as it was my dog that started it Blush and the other person gave a similar sorry because we both had to do a bit of shouting to get them to stop chasing each other in circles.

On that note, recall is still hit and miss but DDog is starting to understand I will eventually get him and he is back on the lead. It has cut down the number of times he doesn't come back but we still end up with shorter walks at the moment when he decides he can't be arsed anymore.
