Vaccinating

Hi, we are considering puppy from breeder who does not vaccinate or worm conventionally but uses homeopathic nosodes and Vermex/ earth. I know there are different views on this. What is risk? Pup will be 4-5 months. If we vaccinate, would we have to limit outings till after jabs as with 8-12 weeks? Concerned re limited socialisation opportunities as a result for older puppy, in critical early months. Thanks for advice

Ok so why does a breeder have 4/5 month old puppy they are selling?
What evidence have you got that the puppy has had any socialisation?
Have you researched these alternatives to vaccination?
Have you heard of titre testing?
Sounds hugely dodgy to me.

I'm not really comfortable with the question that starts, " If we vaccinate..."

Outings will be a lot more limited & dodgy "if" you don't vaccinate.

I always vacc puppies.

I don't do annual boosters.

Chance it OP. Baby doggies with minimal natural immunity don't really need any help. I hear they actually enjoy parvo.

Homeopathic vaccines don't work, end of discussion.
At this age maternal immunity will be gone so you will have an Unsocialised puppy that you can't take out for another three weeks.
As others say, be a bit cautious of this breeder

monkey face can i ask about vaccinating. i hsd two dogs in the past which were vaccinated for first 3 or 4 years then i stopped. but i wasnt sure i should have. so are you saying just vaccinating first year is safe??

Personally, from my research, vacc'ing yearly is pointless.

As humans, we have our vaccs as kids then boosters. Dogs being vaccd annually is a total over load and only for the vets pockets benefit.

Protect them as pups and their bodies will do the rest.

I vaccinate my animals each year. If I didn't I would titre test to check for immunity.

Scientific research says 95% of dogs will be sufficiently covered from their puppy jabs plus a first booster.

HUGE amounts of inflammatory conditions are attributed to vaccine sites from yearly boosters.

There isn't a huge amount FOR annual jabs. But a huge amount against it.

Homeopathy is a crock of shit. And a breeder that has a 4-5 month old pup is a massive red flag, the window of socialisation is closed, you have moved to desensitisation.

I'd be wary.

I had my puppy vaccinated and then three yearly.

I have a horrible suspicion that yearly vaccinations is a money spinner and not particularly healthy.

By the way, we got our puppy at four months and whilst we had to work on socialisation, it was all fine.

I understand the worries about over vaccination. I would still continue to vaccinate or titre test. I know people who have lost unvaccinated dogs. That would devastate me.

After speaking with (what I would consider) honest vets, and doing my own research the first jabs and first booster at 1yr old seem to be all they need, but I would advise titre testing. Homeopathic methods don't work so you wouldn't be able to take the dog out until after jabs, same as with a puppy. Vaccinations are important, don't take the risk. The diseases they prevent are horrendous and you don't want to see your dog go through that

I know many people who use nosodes. They do work. Nor is homeopathy a crock of shit. The most popular vet in our practice is a homeopathic vet - what is a crock of shit is when people have opinions without knowing all the facts and believe it's all witch craft and wizardry 🙄

Titre tests will show your dogs immunity. Yearly boosters are also nothing but dangerous to your dog.

Just because it hasn't been vaccinated it doesn't mean it hasn't been socialised.
If the owner has been using nosodes then chances are the puppy has been socialised as it should. I started taking my puppy out the day I brought her home vaccine free at 8 weeks and she's still alive, well and healthy

Agree with posters who said initial vaccs, 1st year booster then titre test or every 3 years. I would happily try homeopathy for allergies, skin conditions etc but would be reluctant to rely on it for immunity. Why are these puppies still with breeder at 4/5 months? If they have spent all this time bundling all day with their siblings, they will be a nightmare IMO.

I'm with monkey I do first vaccinations and but never annual boosters. My last dog, before the ones I have now, I got him at 6nths and his previous owners never bothered to get his done so he had the jabs at 6mths and was fine. Socially though he was a nightmare and also had seperation anxiety as I was his third owner and it messed him up being passed from pillar to post.

I would be worried about vaccinations and the age.
Why so old if the average age is 8 weeks old to rehome. Was it returned? What socialisation has it had with the breeder?

For vaccinations I am of the opinion I would not risk it especially with all the abundant wildlife around where I live. I would also want a full vet check up before thinking of buying it in such a situation (I had one with my 8 week puppy but this would make me even more cautious and I would definitely want a clause in the contract saying you can return it if anything is found by the vet).

Nosodes do not work and homeopathy is a crock of shit.

There is often a misunderstanding about what constitutes an annual vaccination - core vaccines are only given every three years anyway.

If you want your puppy to go to training classes or you decide to go on holiday without your dog, your dog is poorly and has to stay at the vets a few days or it needs grooming... 2 situations where you have to provide vaccination record and 2 situations where it's advisable.
It's really a non brainer! (Btw, it's 2-4 weeks before your puppy can be safely socialised!)
