Post castration comfort advice?

My dog has had his castration today and the poor thing is whimpering constantly, is there anything I can do.to make him more.comfortable?

Mine is still intact as waiting till he is older so no advice but poor thing. Hope he feels better soon. Did the vet give you any pain killers?

He had an infection and vet advised to get them off asap so I wasn't massively prepared tbh. Vet has given painkillers but said to wait until tomorrow as he had an injection earlier. It's just hard to see them in pain

Post op whimpering can be an after effect of the anaesthetic rather than a pain response. If he's been appropriately dosed up with painkillers then I'd just make sure he's warm and as comfortable as possible.

Some of mine have done the whimpering after various surgeries and it usually stops once they've had a good sleep.

Mine felt very sorry for himself afterwards (understandably) and cried. Every time I have him attention he stopped crying. It seemed to be similar to yours in that he was freaked out by the grogginess of the anaesthetic, he couldn't focus properly.

I'm probably a bit OTT but I set up a bed on the floor consisting of cushions and blankets then sat up for the evening with him. I gave him warm milk and some sausages to make him feel spoilt and for his dinner he had boiled rice and chicken. He was also fond of a hot water bottle for a while afterwards.
