Puppy chews- which are safe and which to avoid?

I'm on a steep learning curve before Labrador puppy arrives at the end of April.

I am unclear as to what type of chews are safe for puppies and dogs and which aren't. I've found so much conflicting information online, and I'm not confident that pet stores only sell safe things.

Can anyone advise me please?

I'd avoid rawhide treats- easy to choke on and if you google how they're made that will put you off as quickly as it did me!!! Good luck with pup xx

No cooked bones, rawhide chews or things the puppy can chew bits off.

Nylabones, and Kong toys are usually pretty good, and you can fill the rubber ones up with liver paste/peanut butter/cream cheese and freeze so they last ages! You can get antler chews (actually made out of shed deer antlers), l believe the flatter ones from fallow deer are softer.

My dogs absolute favourite are hooves!

Nylabones are good, my lab has chewed his loads. A frozen carrot is always good for teething too.
I definitely would avoid rawhide as mentioned and Dentastix etc- all full of crap.

Antler chews are good too but d dogs absolute favourite were and still are nylabones.

Reindeer antlers from Green and Wilds are great, they sell them especially for puppies.

I found tripe sticks and bully pizzle sticks great for settling an active pup in the early evening...she now knows that a chew means end of day, nothing else bar cuddles. Deer antlers also great for general chewing during the day. She also has raw lamb ribs, duck necks a couple of times a week for lunch!

Frozen or chilled carrots help with teething.
Soak dried food (or use something else) to stuff Kong (I then froze)

Avoid rawhide and cooked bones. Dried fish skins are fab and great for teething

Whimzees chews are vegetable based, the hedgehog/toothbrush shapes. Cheap if you get the small ones online. Zooplus is a great time waster shop (online) and they sell the antlers etc.

If you're crate training, kongs are fab to keep them happy in their crates. Avoid peanut butter containing xylitol/other artificial sweeteners.

Frozen carrots, reindeer antlers, bull pizzle, cows ears (we avoid pigs ears because the smell turns me, but you can get pigs & goats ears too), fish twists or skin rolls, raw food chews (found in frozen section, things like beef chews, duck/turkey necks, ribs etc. Just defrost & feed. Just check age range as certain types are fine from 4months, others 6m, some 10m etc).

As a very young pup our dd's favourites were kong filled with treats and natural peanut butter (meridian is good), frozen carrots, cows ears or antler. Still loves all of them now but gets a bit bored of kongs.
