If you have a large dog, what car do you have?

We have a large greyhound. We currently have a 4x4 but it needs replacing and I'd really like something smaller and more economical but it needs to be something the dog can get in comfortably. Just looking for suggestions really.

Ford C-Max, wasn't a choice choice as such as it was what I could get cheap at the time that fitted the dog in the boot, lol.

But I quite like it actually, big enough boot for a large dog without being an oversized car, lots of leg room and head room, pretty good on fuel and ok to drive as well.

Sounds like what we're looking for tabulah, thanks, I'll take a look. Was thinking about a skoda fabia estate, just not sure if it'll be big enough for him.

I've had mine in a fabia estate...it was a very old one so I don't know how the newer ones compare...but...

Similar boot size, except the C-max is taller, so way more room for dogs that like to stand and look out - mine, lol.

Either should fit a greyhound in though.

The Fabia that I borrowed did have a huge lip to the boot though, so it was quite a big jump in but then the floor was low down. My dog struggled with that, but he's a Rottie so completely different shape and he has joint issues.

I'm in the process of getting an s max.

Seat Alhambra- it's exactly the same as a VW Sharan, they are made in the same factory but one has Seat badges put on so is cheaper. Absolutely huge boot when configured as a 5 seater.

BMW 5 series estate. Fits a Golden Retriever in and a Black Lab.

Ford galaxy here. I have 2 labradors. I used to have a monde, which I loved, but the galaxy is better for us now that DH competes at agility as the galaxy can cope with towing the caravan.

Giant breed here and he has a discovery....:

I know someone who bought a discovery for their giant breed and regretted it every time they had to lift their dog in the car. Giant breeds can easily damage themselves jumping in and out of a high vehicle.

Our large lurcher and collie cross get in and out of our Volvo V70 estate with ease. It's also roomy enough for them both to lie down comfortably.

You need to be sure the dog can jump in and out safely.

As a pp has said, it's really important to have a boot with an opening they don't have to jump over.

We have a Ford Expedition. We love it gives the dogs plenty of space

I've got two Weimaraners and they have a (very old and really cheap) VW Golf with the back seat down and the dog guard behind the front seats. Plenty of blankets in the back and there's loads of room for them both. It's not a car anyone else other than me really wants to travel in, but I've got a dog-free one for that.

It was so old and cheap (& it's a diesel so cheap to run as well) that I don't get stressed out when it gets dirty or the puppy chews things and if it only lasts a year it'll have paid for itself. To say nothing of the peace of mind of not having my nice car trashed!

My fairly big labradoodle loved my old a class as it had a tall if small boot, he had enough space to lie down but he could sit up and lean on the back seat.

DH has a Skoda Superb estate which has loads of room in the boot for our two lurchers, and I have a Honda CRV which is fine. As the Superb is new, we have a custom boot liner in it to keep it clean

Or get them a ramp? Old yeller had a ramp up to the boot of our 4x4 after he hospitalised me by wriggling when I picked him up to put him in.
