Anyone got experience of these dogs? Our old lab died recently and we need another dog but can't have the same breed. A friend has one and she's beautiful and seems an ideal family pet, but I recently reads they shed and slobber - oh dear!

Would love to hear any experiences or thoughts as I'm dangerously keen!

We looked into spinones as a family dog and temperament wise they seem ideal. Yes apparently they do shed and drool but this doesn't bother us. We found a reputable breeder but the cost of pedigree pups put us off ... we got a non shedding non drooling rescue dog instead who is perfect for us.

I've got 2 Spinone boys and they are wonderful, gentle and friendly and very laid back. However they are mud magnets, very hairy, they have wet slobbery beards and they are definitely not for the house proud! They need lots of exercise, hate being left for very long as they love human companionship and they need very thoughtful socialising when young as they can be a bit nervous otherwise, they are a very sensitive breed in my experience. Also they are quite naughty and very clever! I love them!

We had them throughout my childhood. They are brilliant family pets - loyal, gentle, loving .....but yes, very very slobbery and do shed. However, on the basis my lovely DM is the most house proud neurotic I've ever encountered and she managed to cope/put systems in place to minimise the impact I'd say where there's a will there's a way!

They are gorgeous animals. I know several very very good breeders too.

Lovely dogs, but they are slobbertastic. But lovely!

My PiL and SiL both have one. Lovely friendly dogs, very good with the DCs. Love human company, but yes, very slobbery and can get very mucky!
