Any vets about to help with my 11 year old Lab?

Just to start, she has seen the vet this week and we are still not really any further forwards.

Symptoms
Lethargy
Walking around aimlessly
Panting lots
Odd breathing
Clear runny nose
Weight loss 1kg in 6 weeks.

No loss in appetite
Maybe drinking more

No temp
Bloods normal apparently

All started about a week ago.

Any ideas please?

She is on Metacam for a week and has been wormed incase its lungworm.

Any ideas, it's quite sad to watch.

Sorry, another symptom - she has been wretching on and off for 9 or so months so the vet thinks there is laryngeal paralasis (sp?) there to some degree.

Please please please take her back to the vets and ask for an X-ray or scan.

My last dog wasn't right, similar symptoms but there were more, all her bloods came back absolutely fine etc - only she wasn't fine! I had to take her back two more times and demanded an X-ray which is where they found a blockage that they weren't able to find by physically examining her.

She was sent to a specialist and to cut a long story short she was diagnosed with lymphoma and passed away over Christmas.

I'm not saying this is what your dog has, it could be just a bad few days but it could be a lot worse. Please get a second opinion or ask for X-ray

Our lab (now 13) had very similar symptoms at the age of 11, the retching in particular was really heart wrenching to watch.

In the end he had to be sedated for a proper investigation (not unrelated to him hating vets and needing muzzled depite being a huge softy the rest of the time). It was found to be a benign lump in his trachea that the vet thought might well have formed around a grass seed. After a very expensive operation he was right as rain, fingers crossed further investigations find a treatable cause for your dog too.

My dog has partial laryngeal paralysis, she had to have a GA and have an X-ray and a scan, it was diagnosed about 18 months ago, and she's 12 next week. She retches sometimes, and pants more, but hasn't lost weight and is still happy to go for longish walks. We decided against an op for the time being, now we know what it is.

Think some more investigations would be a good idea for your dog, and hopefully it won't get much worse.

We think we may have found the cause, Rudder tail. We didn't realise her tail was limp. It explains the not wanting to settle, with panting because she is in pain.

Will keep a very close eye on her weight loss etc.

Might look into the investigations for the paralysis.

Nope, i'm not convinced that's all it is. She is definitely very strange at the moment. I keep finding her stood with her head under a chair or the small table in the lounge.

It's as if she has aged 3 years in the last fortnight. She sometimes sits outside on the front door step in the sun, today she wandered off, she has never ever done that.

I will call the vets again tomorrow.

She's now just pacing around the house.

Doesn't sound good, hopefully you can get her to settle tonight and get to the vets tomorrow

Do you have insurance?

It's not sounding good tbh, so the sooner you get her checked properly the better

Is her stomach sounding and looking ok? I would be tempted to ring the vet now tbh.

DH has taken her for a walk around the block to see if it breaks the cycle.

Tummy looks normal, still obsessed with food as ever.

We rang the vet who said that all they could do during the night would be sedation if we brought her to them. They advised we have her half a paracetamol and take her for a longer walk to reset her.

It seemed to work as she settled.

This morning she seems better, but we will take her straight to the vets this morning.
