I'm not a dog owner, but my friend is. In a nutshell, puppy was being walked (on a lead) in a local place usual for dog walkers. Puppy was attacked by a staff type dog (their words, not mine). Staff dog was not on a lead and not with the owner, but a teenager. Puppy sustained serious injuries and is very poorly, but hopeful will recover, although not out of the woods yet. Puppy owner was also injured, not badly, but needed tetanus and bite wound dressed at A&E.
Puppy has been transferred to a pet hospital about 30 miles from here and has been in an oxygen tent since Saturday, because she is so little, the staff basically squashed one of her lungs.
Owner of staff has been in contact, her insurance doesn't cover injury to puppy. Cost of bill is well over the amount puppy insurance covered. In excess of 3,000 so far.
So, the question, does anybody know who my friends can turn to, to claim back any monies over and above what their own insurance will cover?
It seems so unfair that this staff owner will basically get away with her dog nearly killing a puppy who was being walked responsibly, when her dog wasn't on a lead and neither was she even with it!
Police have been and gone and no further action being taken by them.
