Does your dog smell weird when they're not well?

Ddog is not feeling well - we're not 100% sure what's up but he's a bit listless, sleeping more than usual and he's got conjunctivitis which he gets without fail when he's ill. He's looking a bit scruffier than normal but we've noticed that when he's under the weather his smell changes. He usually has a slight doggy smell but it's not at all unpleasant but today he smells much more strongly doggy - just curious if other dogs have this too?

Have a look in his ears? Our dog gets occasional ear infections, and he smells when he has those. If he has an ear infection his ear canal would look red
