Yes I used it. There are a lot more borrowers than owners so you have your pick of people. Choose one you like the sound of and meet them for a walk in the park. IIRC there are validation checks too. Win-win situation Smile

I used to be a borrower before getting my own dog. Met a lovely couple and there gorgeous poochon and we are now all good friends.

Thanks guys! Appreciate the help! I'm sure if anyone did steal our dogs they would bring them back sharpish- they are a little naughty!!!

It annoys me as a borrower as I think lots of owners are looking for free dog walking/kennelling.

I have a newborn so genuinely looking for someone to give them the exercise they need (they are only 10 months!)

They don't look naughty at all! I would worry about letting a stranger take my dog. How about a safe field! Drive there, let them run then back home?

cloudchasing · 03/02/2017 22:28

Haggisfish what is it supposed to be for? Confused

Haggisfish · 03/02/2017 22:29

Well, obviously people to borrow a dog to walk-fine and obvious. Specific weekends only with dos and donts-not quite in keeping with the site. People ignoring your messages. Annoying.

cloudchasing · 03/02/2017 23:30

I'm going to sound like I'm being argumentative here, and I'm not, honestly! But it's a mutually beneficial arrangement, isn't it? So are the owners not well within their rights to dictate when it's convenient?

tabulahrasa · 03/02/2017 23:34

cloudchasing...I think the issue is that it's supposed to be mutually beneficial, but owners try to use it instead of a paid service rather than just as a bit of an add on enrichment for their dog.

So it's full on holiday care or walks every lunchtime they're wanting people to do.

That's the impression I've got anyway, I don't use it.

cloudchasing · 03/02/2017 23:36

Ah ok - no I don't use it either, but I've wondered about it once or twice.

3dancingladies · 03/02/2017 23:37

I have found it to be completely useless, possibly because I live rurally

Hoppinggreen · 04/02/2017 08:03

I was a borrower before we got dog.
The introduction was gradual and a relationship was built up rather than just having someones dog chucked at us!
We took very very good care of them and treated them like one of the family.
A few owners were certainly trying to take the piss but I managed to avoid them.
If you find the right match it will be great but ( and I say this as the proud owner of a GR) your 2 are big hairy beasts and you will need to find someone who knows what they are doing

DannyOD · 04/02/2017 10:20

Yes, when I was a borrower myself and my youngest dd met the dog with her owner at a local park, we walked and chatted, then we met up with the owner and her husband for another doggy walk for further chats. We then took the dog out one weekend whilst they were at home to see if the dog was willing to walk with us and we got on with the dog. It was a gradual process as she had to be 100% sure she was willing to hand over a set of house keys to a virtual stranger!!!

sotiredbutworthit · 04/02/2017 18:37

Hoppinggreen that's what I'm worried about! I have visions of some poor sod being dragged off by two 30kg hounds who want to play with everyone/dog within a one mile radius!!!!
