I recently lost my beloved dog and been asked by a rescue whether I'd be prepared to foster. The dog is question is an abandoned bitch who is lactating as she has obviously had puppies (but who were not with her when she was found.) I am an experienced dog owner but not with lactating females - would I need to do anything to help her or would I need to mop up and clean her? How long do dogs lactate for when there is no puppy to feed? thank you
