Nervous 1 year old dog cowering and bolted home

Our dog is 13 months old and we are very lucky that we live next to a wooodland estate. The dog is fine in this environment.

Today, I took her around the streets. On a grassed area I let her off and started walking to the gate at the other side, when I reached the gate instead of coming back to me which she does 100%, she walked through the gate into the road, almost on her belly whilst she cowered. A car had to stop as she was in the middle of the road.

As i shouted her she kept looking back but was obviously heading back home. To get her back I went up someones garden path and she followed me and i got her on the lead.

I cant believe it. Nothing like this has happened before.

Is this the first time she'd 'walked the streets', as it were? If so, it's a totally different experience and she'll need to be kept on a lead until she's used to it, I think. They don't automatically have road sense!

Is she due a season?

purple15 · 20/01/2017 12:16

No it's not the first time
It's just easier to go off lead to the woods
She is just really timid
But not in the woods
She had her first season on August
So yes Maybe she is due xx
