Going on holiday with 9/10 month old puppy

Sitting here talking with dh about summer holiday and our puppy will be 9/10 months old in the summer. Any advice? We've been to France camping the last 6 summers but I think this could be a little stressful and leaning towards a caravan/cottage holiday in UK, not too far from home.

Any advice, tips? Ours is a standard poodle, in case breed matters.

Can't see any probs as long as you choose a dog friendly cottage. I would crate puppy on journey and whilst you're there at night (so nothing gets chewed etc). Is your puppy good on long journeys?

Longest journey so far is about 45 minutes and she's getting used to the car but is not house trained as yet. As first time dog owners I find it hard to imagine it's ever going to get better at the moment! But we don't want to leave booking something to the last minute and then find we can't book anything. We took our pup away for the first time October half term, he was 5 months, and I admit that when we booked it we couldn't imagine him ever behaving well enough to be in somebody else's property!

We booked a dog friendly cottage at a quiet seaside resort with plenty of countryside, hills etc nearby. Our journey was 3 hours and he hated it, making me think we had done the wrong thing but to watch him experience the beach for the first time was so special. He absolutely had the time of his life! Journey back no problem at all as he slept all the way!!

My tips are to check out whether the beaches are dog friendly and dog friendly pubs so you can have the odd meal out. We kept him on lead and took a filled kong and bone with us to keep him occupied while we ate. Otherwise he was great in the evening in the cottage as he was tired from all the exercise and excitement.

We are returning to the same place in the summer - can't wait!

The Lake District is very dog friendly, especially Keswick, virtually all the pubs/ cafes and quite a few shops will let you take dogs in.

I wouldn't camp in case she's in season. I think your plan sounds good. If she has a crate and some of her own things (blanket etc) and you're there, then are she'll be very happy

Thank you, your replies are encouraging. Re the coming into season our vet recommends having her spayed at 6months so that shouldn't be an issue.

We went on holiday with our 6 month old pup in October. We just rented a dog-friendly holiday cottage. It was great!

We took her crate for the car and to sleep in. She had a whale of time :)

There's a group on Facebook called Dog Friendly Holiday Accommodation which is really good for cottages. You can post an ad with specific requirement, so if likely to have accidents you can request somewhere with hard floors for easy cleaning etc. Well worth a look :)

We have a 14 week old puppy and have booked a four day trip to Devon in a dog friendly cottage.. She is crate trained so she will sleep in that.. She's not great in the car yet but hopefully will be by May😊

We have 2x dogs and took youngest awat when he was 9 months old, he was great. We regularly use 'owners direct' as there are loads of different options across the UK and it is very easy to just put 'dog friendly' as a search term. I love Norfolk for huge open beaches but many are closed to dogs in summer.
