My dog died last night

I've got to tell my girls when they wake up, can't face it. She was 5 and it's going to be awful...

She's had several episodes of bloat, has had her stomach stapled a couple of years ago, was in the vets having been deflated and it just happened really quickly, they think there was some underlying abdominal issue but don't know. Suspect the amount of crap she's pilfered over the years has something to do with it, but we didn't say good bye, totally stupidly didn't see it coming

I suppose the only comfort is she wouldn't have seen it coming either.

I lost a dog years ago unexpectedly during a routine dental and I was haunted for a long time by the way i happily trotted out the vet without a backwards glance when I left her. Please don't beat yourself up about not saying goodbye.
