Syringomyelia?

Dms wee ckc has been diagnosed with syringomyelia - no MRI, just based on symptoms. My mum is in bits. We know that there is no cure and that she will gradually get worse 😢.

What I was surprised at was that the vet said there was nothing at all that could be done - didn't offer any ways to control symptoms and instead just offered to pts there and then (which mum refused).

Mum is going to call another vet this morning for second opinion, but I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this horrible disease??

So sorry, it's a dreadful disease.

Oh and she has let the breeder know, and they are informing the studs owner.

She's booked in for an mri tomorrow morning and other vet has talked through some symptom control options - so fingers crossed

So sorry to hear this. But there is a lot that can be done to ease your mum's dog's symptoms - check out the Cavalier Matters website as well as the links given above. From what I understand, it may take a while for the right combination of medications to be worked out. I'm very surprised a vet offered to euthanise unless the symptoms are very severe indeed. Good luck to your mum and her cavalier working this out.

Oh no poor ddog and dm. How sad. I really hope there is something that helps in tjese links to ease symptoms.
Its possible also, and neccsary to register this health concern against your ddogs pedigree record with the KC as it will ensure that the Sire's record of health of progeny will be updated for future breeding (and dam)
