What's up with my dog, continual barking

I've a cocker spaniel who is 3, last night and tonight he just won't stop barking he is driving me mad! He doesn't want to go out, he doesn't want to play, he just wants to bark. My other dog and dh have fallen to sleep, I'm going mad!
What's up with him?

Can you tell us some more about the barking? is he just sitting in middle of floor barking or looking at you amd barking or at windows (responding to noises) or anything else?

Karcheer · 09/12/2016 14:06

A little bit of all of that. He is currently barking (more like wingey chatting) at the mo. He's never been a big barker, he's definitely trying to tell me something :/

Which? Can you give specifics of what he's doing right now. Where he's loojing and his posture an whereabouts in house or at anyone?

My GSD does this when his ball rolls somewhere he can't get it, we had a few noisy days before I realised what he was trying to tell me.
Now I recognise his "lost ball" bark immediately and rush to do his bidding Smile.

I bet he's lost something. A treat or toy just out of reach/stuck somewhere?

Our dear old dog (a Springer) barked incessantly when he went deaf, like he couldn't work out why he couldn't hear himself. It seems unlikely since your dog is young, but just an idea.

Karcheer · 09/12/2016 17:23

I don't think he is deaf as he has been to the fields today and his recall was fine.
I'll spend the evening asking "show me" which normally directs me to a ball under a radiator cover, his lead or the utility room (which is where sweets are kept), I'm slightly worried it's a protest to the flickering Christmas tree a neighbour has put up, in which case I might need earplugs for Christmas!
