Hi I have a rescue dog who when we first got him had terrible issues. One of the issues was that he was terrified of my daughter's partner. We got him from the Dog's Trust and the "expert" there said for daughter's partner to really go over the top with our dog, give lots of attention, etc. We now know that this was terrible advice and in fact we should have left our dog to go to him as he felt ready. However, the damage is now done.

We have got over many hurdles with our dog and he is absolutely amazing now with the exception of daughter's partner. He is still scared of him although he will timidly approach him and be fussed. It is a shame as you can see he wants to go over but is scared.

Recently my daughter's partner was doing some diy for me, at first I was out and dog stayed out in the garden but as soon as I came home he came in and started barking at DP. At one point my DP walked past me with a saw and my dog went up to him and put his mouth around DP leg. This was very gentle and in fact we were not sure it even happened apart from we both saw it. I obviously took my dog out at this point.

yesterday DP literally drilled one hole and my dog was walking towards him barking.

I realise that my dog is protecting me (I think) but it is quite worrying as we do not want to escalate the situation.

Does anybody have any experience of this and did you manage to get over it. I realise that any work being done I will take my dog out but I really do not want my dog to be scared of DP as obviously it must disturb him and also upset DP.

Sorry this is so long but wanted to put all info in, any help or advice would be much appreciately, thank you
