I'm wondering if I might be allergic to my dog.

This will sound silly I know but I am not a person who suffers from allergies so it's only just occurred to me that this might be the problem.

We adopted our first dog two weeks ago. Almost instantly I came down with a bit of a cold, nothing major. Great timing, I thought. 2 weeks on and the 'bit of a cold' is still there, and a slight cough. And I'm sitting here with the dog and had a bit of a light bulb moment, that it's always worse in this room where he is, and it started when he arrived.

I Googled and all the things they suggest to minimise symptoms we are already doing.

I don't know how to tell if it's him or if I do just have a cold. We already had a cat and I have no problem with her.

Any wise words, anyone? X

Have you tried taking an antihistamine and seeing if that clears up your symptoms ?

I'll get some tomorrow and see what happens!

When our dog first came to live with us I developed horrible allergy symptoms, which would not have been livable with had they continued. I identified that his saliva was the worst offender and wore gloves when playing with his ball. It was a horrible time as we really thought we might not be able to keep him but then after a couple of weeks all the symptoms went away. I can't explain this but allergy does not seem to be a simple phenomenon.

Anyway all is well now, and he is asleep on my feet so don't despair, it might just be a short-term reaction.
