Desperate please for help....fleas!!!

So the dog (partly wire coated jrt) picked up fleas about 6 weeks ago.
She has advocat (sp?) routinely and has had a treatment in the last few weeks (since the little bastards set in) but they are worse than ever and driving us all mad.
Poor thing is scratching on occasions that she's making her skin sore and struggling to sleep.
Vets say the advocat should have got rid of them but it hasn't....mores the point she caught them whilst on it anyway.

House has been cleaned and hoovered within a inch of its life.

She's not what I would call 'littered' but they are obviously present...saying that she's mostly black so it's hard to see apart from on her tummy.

About 3 weeks ago they seemed to have disappeared but are back with a vengeance.

What else can I do?
Are the seresto (sp again?!) worth Dorking out for?

Have you got a flea comb? It will get rid of all fleas on dog (pretty much if you are thorough, particularly aroundwarm parts (around the neck, under/behind ears, on belly, around tail base, making sure to lie him on his back and stretch out front limbs to comb underarm area too.

For the hoovering focus on areas of dark warmth - esp edges of carpet near hot pipes and heat sources.

If you cannot deal with infeatation you may have to have your hoise treated and shut up whilst you all stay out! Might be only way if other methods dont work.

As you flea comb either put fleas intobowl of water/drown or crush them

I'm not sure about the doggy himself but for the house get some Indorex from the vet or amazon. We had a terrible infestation courtesy of our old cat about 5 years ago and it was the only thing that worked. Once you've done the whole house it lasts for a year.

My vet perscribed a chewy tablet that gave cover for about three months?

It was amazing before then I'd routinely be picking 8/10 fleas a night off her, my mum had an old cat that just seemed to be an easy target for it.

I would caution against the use of Indoex becusse of efect it can have on immune system and susceptibility to allergens, asthma, etc

Make sure to replace /empty vacuum bag after a clean up. If any consolation cold weather should spell doom for fleas!

I had a similar problem with my Cavalier. Tried various things over the course of six weeks with no luck. Then booked her into the pre-warned groomers. Gave groomer Advocat to use on dog. Threw out or washed all her bedding and toys, vacuumed everywhere and used flea bombs (aka foggers) and stayed out of the house a few hours. Did the trick.

Only have to agree with others, hover everything, use household flea spray or flea bomb, wash all bedding at 60*C + to kill the eggs and bath your dog regularly for a while using plenty of conditioner.

Treat the house. At least 90% of a flea infestation is in the environment. You need a spray from the vet ( or you can buy online, they are general sales, not prescription) that contains permethrin and an insect growth regulator like S-methoprene e.g Indorex or Acclaim.
The fleas have a lifestage where they are in a pupa and the spray won't kill them, so you need them to hatch, and warmth, humidity and vibration encourage hatching. So central heating on, bowl of water on the radiator to increase humidity, Hoover first, then spray, concentrating round the skirting boards and under heavy furniture that is not regularly moved. Treat the whole house once properly, and the car, even if there are areas where the dog doesn't have access. Then Hoover every couple of days until you are on top of it. Wash bedding on a hot wash. Keep applying the Advocate monthly. Do you struggle to get the product on her skin? Does it run off on wiry hair? If so consider one of the oral products instead. E.g. Comfortis or Bravecto.
